Why did they need to rebuild the platforms?  It looks like new one went in at the same location as the old ones.

Both platforms were too short for a 6-car VL.

One would've hoped they made at least one of these rail lines through the upgraded Wendouree Station dual gauge (or with dual gauge sleepers).  But alas, short-shorted planning strikes again....

and alas the gauge wars continue. Better short-sighted than completely blind.

Be thankful that Geelong and Ararat are still (and hopefully forevever will be) on the Irish.
The massive improvements in last decade would never have happened, and they would would resemble the disaster north of Seymour.

Probably just cheaper to destroy the platforms and build them from scratch again than to modify them for DDA accessibility and lifts.

I second that. The old platforms were pretty well stuffed.

There is only one new platform, on the down side.

Says a lot about the state of this State and the Nation that we can't get the National gauge enacted after 150 + years, let alone build a 20C developed VFT in the 21C!

Correct, the Benefits of outweigh the failures. Simple cost cutting measure, if there's no need for SG its simple! You can now add Mildura to that list. It's not short term planning, its knowing that in the long run these lines are not being converted for simple gunzel Lash-ups to be seen on Warrenheip Bank hauling the east-west freights. The Gauge wars Never ended!!

We have no need for that, that issue could have been solved ages ago however has been prolonged by NSW and the Feds.
We have fairly fast trains going at 160km'h!

But not on the Bendigo line as the historic tunnels aren't "wide enough" for two tracks and 160 kph running on the full length and the designated short trip VLo's top out at 130kph due to weight.

Well, the overweight VLo's do run on some part of the Ballarat line but they can't go past Bacchus March and I'll also note that some of the works are now viewable in google maps, but not streetview as they've not been by some spots for some time.
