The original locality was spelt Holdsworthy (Holds Worthy=Regards as valuable), and this spelling was used for the original 1918 branchline and terminal station, until the branch was continually shortened as the Anzac Rifle Range Branch and eventually closed. With the extension of the East Hills line to Glenfield in the 80's, a new station was built to serve the radically different area now known as Holsworthy.
