The proposed Bylong coal mine has for the moment been canned which would have if it goes ahead provided traffic for the Mudgee line?

Traffic for the Mudgee line? Highly unlikely.

55km from Mudgee.

The Ulan line passes right through Kepco's mining lease near Bylong.

Kepco = Korean Electric Power COmpany -they don’t own power stations in this country.

The Sandy Hollow-Ulan line is (a) operational and (b) directly connected to port of Newcastle and (c) runs alongside the proposed mine site.

To bother with the Mudgee line, KEPCO would need to (a) supply the coal to, probably, Mount Piper Power Station (Wallerawang has closed) or (b) choose to export it through Port Kembla. Neither of which seem reasonable to me.

Plenty of trains on the Ulan line.
Glad this got blocked, untouched for millions of years leave it that way, you can't dig up the whole state all the way to Muswellbrook.

That countryside is usually beautiful green - shame about the drought. I too am glad they blocked it - this is the area where comrade Obeid stood to make a shipload of money from his “farm”.

Incidentally, we have dug up the state to Muswellbrook, then continued north and west. The Hunter is a bloody eyesore from the air on approach from Brisbane. I wonder whether the (legally-mandated” mine rehabilitation will eventually make a positive difference.

when you say untouched for millions of years, you do realise that the railway is not that ols, and the land in the background has been cleared, levelled and planted with crops that are not native to Australia?
