Ok another field report for those interested and not bored to tears by my crop reports.
Last Wednesday we cruised back to Horsham for 5 days to travel down to Penshurst, Hamilton and such to catch up with the natives.
It was also a significant trip as it was to celebrate Nanna's 99th birthday, fine effort that ! Nanna's claim to fame is that she as a young girl, she was in a class of students that walked across the Sydney Harbor Bridge at it's opening....try and top that one.
Rightio, as we barreled out of Bordertown on the last leg of the Dooks highway, me perched up in the passenger seat with a tenacious grip of the jesus handle and other hand with finger nails gripping the dashboard, the Mrs piloting the vehicle, crops still quite green, most canola still standing, some had been wind rowed, all looking very good.
Things dried out quite considerably towards Kaniva, barley ready to harvest generally, nothing a bit of warm weather / sunshine won't fix. Wheat still needing a week of very warm weather to be close.
The closer we got to Nhill the more crops dried out, plenty of barley ready, wheat still needing the warm weather, plenty of canola wind rowed. Heaps of hay cut, plenty already baled and plenty needing to baled. The same format continued to Horsham however south of was a far diffent story, still quite green, you'd be lucky to start a fire in most paddocks and as such lots of canola still standing and plenty of greenish crops and again hay cut or being cut for as far as the eye could see, pleasing to see and the whole area covered by us was looking very productive, great news for the West and Wimmera regions.
On the rail front, on approach to Kanivia fresh ballast along the line and it seemed to be the case where ever you could see the line right to Horsham. Work being done along the line near the Pimpinio loop, quite a number of workers, frontend loaders, ballast tamperer, might have been a rail grinder thingy and various other machines.
The fresh ballast being spread was from a few weeks ago, Greensleeves had a video up at the time Gennesee/Wyoming loco's I think that were loading out of Murtoa.
Last time I cruised past GrainFlow at Dimmy still a fair heap of grain on site but a fair swarth of that has gone and a couple of small piles of new season grain in bunkers, however with the warm/hot weather this week things throughout the region will really crank up.
