Silverton on the South - December 1999

  Bevan Wall Deputy Commissioner

On today's date twenty years ago, Thursday December 2nd, 1999, Silverton locos 442s6 & 48s37 hauled a rake of derelict locomotives and wagons from Sydney to Broken Hill via Cootamundra. Here are some scenes of this fascination train recorded between Picton and Goulburn to refresh the memories.
Enjoy,
BW.

Does anyone know what type of wagons were being hauled and where they came from? I've been told they were ex BHP wagons, but I've got no information on the coding for those wagons or their history.

its an interesting consist, with a loco, wagon, loco, wagon (I'm assuming for braking?)

It's interesting to see 4847 in the consist minus a cab. I've been told it was in the process of being fitted with an 82 class cab, however, the project for whatever reason was cancelled.

Was all the stock in this train headed for Broken Hill for it's inevitable demise? The Locos and the wagons all look a bit worse for wear. (Except of course the locos hauling the train).
