V/Line Incidents/Disruptions #2

To be fair to V/line they did mention fire damage to the Echuca line in a tweet on Friday.

Now the Swan Hill line... If it's not typical summer temperatures that bustitute it, there's always "Maintenance Requirements":

On the AM Down Swan Hill service. Train was well over 20 minutes late into Footscray for lord knows what reasons. Then made an unscheduled stop at Sunshine to "pick up some passengers"??????? which meant that the spark that we had just overtaken through Tottenham nabbed the path back from us.

Now crawling though Ginifer / St A towards Watergardens. P1ss up in a brothel anyone?

Oh dear....... It sounds like they had to change sets at Southern Cross. Just departing Gisborne at 09.05, normally we would be heading out of Malmsbury or even entering Elphi loop by now. We are going to have to cross the Up Swanners at some point too. Long morning ahead methinks,

Thats correct Brenton, the original set had a door fault and had to be swapped out. It was most likely found during the conductors pre-boarding checks and unfortunately it takes a bit of time to get carriages to and from the sidings to the platform and then get the loco re-attached and brakes done etc.

There is only a 31 minute allowance at Swan Hill for this service to run around and do brakes again before returning to Melbourne so by terminating early at Kerang it gets the UP service back on time for the rest of the day. Nobody likes bustitutions for part or all of the journey but in this case its for the greater good.

'Terminating early' (terminating late, in fact ?).

Can one can assume that what they really intended to say was 'terminating short'.

Thank goodness the spin doctors do not issues Train Orders.

Yep, got the good oil from the Connie just before we arrived in The Maine, the old door fault strikes again and he red carded it, they swapped sets but as you say he then had to do checks again. He said they got away at around 8 in the end which is pretty good going but of course we had lost our path so we just lost more and more time as we went.

Lost a heap in the Metro area after being put behind the spark at Sunshine and then after getting a path on the fast track (west) were held at Kyneton to cross the Up VL that we normally cross on the Elphi loop. Got put into 2 road at CME (which is great for me!) to cross the Up Swan Hill which I think is normally crossed at Porcupine Loop (?) and of course I have no idea what happened after that as I jumped off.

Much of the time was lost before Footscray on the RRL I think because the train was more than 20 minutes late there however normally this service can make up a bit of time as it has a cross timetabled at Elphi and a bit of other fat in the TT but not today. A great example of the problems caused by the Metro interface and then single line sections beyond Kyneton.

I missed this one but full marks to V/Line who have joined the #waronwaste following KeepCup Gate on the Warnambool line last year. Not only can i now use my own cup for a half decent coffee on the Swanners service but V/Line are also selling these branded cups. I forgot to ask the price but you do get a free cup of Joe when you buy the cup.

Photo robbed from the excellent Warnambool Standard who were front and centre in the campaign to get V/Line on board!

Interesting morning at Footscrazy today waiting for the Down Swan Hill. New Ballarat timetable seems to have put a 07.44 nicely in between the Down Warnambool and the Swanners service. With 2 MT cars movements normally timetabled between the 07.37 Bool (which NEVER leaves Footscray on time) and the 07.49 Swan Hill (which is normally at least a minute late) it would make it pretty tight.

Only one of the MT cars came through today so one might have been re-scheduled but it was certainly interesting nonetheless - I always thought having those 2 long distance services TTd together was deliberate as they cannot and do not meet the timetable from Southern Cross to Footscray.

The latter empty cars run is now scheduled to run through Footscray at 7:52, so has been pushed out of that window between the two long distance services. I know the first empty car run of the two always stops for the Warrnambool to go first, then more or less crawls the rest of the way to WV South.

They trot that one out every other afternoon on the Bendigo line. What it really means is "we don't have enough VL sets to run the current timetable"

Meanwhile it is fun and games on the Down Bendi services this morning with the 07.14 cancelled due to a door fault I believe. The following service is the 07.41 Swan Hill which is running with 4 cars instead of 5 (pretty much standard ATM for the Swanners and the Bubble). Pax being turfed out of seats by others boarding with reserved seats (only 1 unreserved car on a 4 car set) and lots of generally grumpy early risers.

Service stopping all stations due to previous SAS cancellation.

Pax for Adelaide coach and Daylesford coach services being taxied, the 7 or so Adelaide-bound getting a Maxi Taxi to St Arnaud!

Can't wait to get off!

I've often thought that I'd wouldn't mind being a V/Line conductor. Then I remember days like this.

On the 16.23 Up out of CME with some bloke who is out of his tree wandering around the train shouting, banging on windows, trying to break the toilet seat, you name it.

The Conductor is doing his best to calm the guy down but it ain't working. I suspect he might be removed at Kyneton but I sure as hell know that I wouldn't be able to deal with him as calmly as the train staff.

***edit, our friend made it all the way to Gisborne before 3 of Victoria's finest boarded the train and removed him for what i suspect will be a night in the Gizzy lockup. Great job by the crew and in particular the Conductor***

*** Double edit, just overheard a conversation with pax on the train, apptly the blokes 14/15 yo son had already been turfed off the train at Castlemaine after he was caught smoking in the toilet. Class double act!***
