NR Class Repaints

NR30 arrived in Melbourne today on XM. Judging by the throngs of gunzels I saw trackside there must be about a million photos of it floating around the internet.

The only photo of NR30 in Great Southern livery on the net so far is from the Stawell WebCam on Flickr  . . . even train nuts are being replaced by automation !  Smile

I know this is slightly off topic but ..............

There are photos appearing on both Flickr and Railpictures of FQ04 now painted in the standard G&W orange and black scheme.  Some friends liked the original paintwork but I never quite got how some long haired guy with a bow and arrow had something to do with rail transport in Australia.

.......... back to the NR's .....

NR 34 is the next in line for a paint job.

A freshly painted NR84 emerged from Islington Workshops on the 24th December with a new slogan, "real trains not road trains" painted on the side.

Not that unexpected considering how vocal the big man upstairs has been of late.

I guess not. I wonder if NR34 will come out with a similar slogan?

NR34 was seen in Islington Workshops yesterday so I guess we'll see if they paint the slogan on or not in the coming weeks.

NR66 and NR112 on the Great Southern today are both in need of new paint.

PN should look at how some of the companies in Europe using slab-sided locos have started using vinyl wraps to turn them into rolling billboards. They could do a far better job of the real trains campaign on an AN loco than a hood unit like the NR.

Does anyone know if NR34 got a new paint job  ? ........... my only source of info is Flickr and I haven't seen anything there yet.
  ANR Deputy Commissioner

Yuk, there is too much to read. I like the double overlapping diamond of National Rail, along with the platinum/gum sides contrasted with the orange desert sand colour.

Unfortunately, PacNat does not have a simple identifiable logo like AN or NR had.

I wonder how many they will paint like NR84 ( ..and 34) ?    From what I've read it's to get a message to politicians about rail funding but would a political actually see that message.  Unfortunately it may just be preaching to the converted.

Anyway thanks for the update , photos should turn up on Flickr in a few days.  The model train guys will have another paint job to do !
