The XAM is the car on its side behind 2018
Only the XAM and some of the XL cars have the Explorer style bogie clearly seen in the photographs.

No, this is just diluting existing limited funds away from the existing trackage for a once in a generation event.
Do we need to start thinking about a secondary route to the north out of Melbourne? Time to consider Mildura - Broken Hill?
According to a Channel 7 news report posted a few hours ago, the reporter states the the train is heading for the scrap yard, the XPT beyond repairThe XPT is:
In some of those instances, and that isn't all of them in the ATSB database, the crew were injured during the derailment that likely wouldn't have happened if they were strapped in to a decent seat & harness. As to how many crew would wear a harness if it were provided? No idea...
According to a Channel 7 news report posted a few hours ago, the reporter states the the train is heading for the scrap yard, the XPT beyond repairThe XPT is:
XP2018, XAM2179, XL2229, XBR2155, XF2201, XFH2108 and XP2000.
They may scrap XP2018...
XF2201, XFH2108 and XP2000 look quite ok, and might need minor repair.
There aren't enough spare XAM, XBR and XL to scrap those....
Bombardier could have those repaired in a couple of weeks. They could probably fix 2018 while they are at it.

This notice concerns work on testing signals in the area of the accident. Thanks
This work only overlaps the earlier notice about use of the loop track by ten minutes.
Perhaps other work was planned in the area?
This too was issued on the day of the accident.
