Intermodal containers becoming scarce for export shippers

News article: Intermodal containers becoming scarce for export shippers

As sailings from North American ports have been canceled, a lot of containers are sitting at ports waiting to be shipped.

US ports have stopped accepting chips therefore containers are not moving through the ports. Expect to have this impact rail traffic as container holding at max.

Do we expect ships to be denied access to Australia ports soon?

freight shipments in AU has to stay open ...mostly for fuel sources ... but there is standard a shipping container shortage as the shipping companies don't make a profit moving a ship full of empty units .. ie we return the container to ports but with import / export numbers a country will have an over supply... ie a ship from AU to Asia will need to take some empty's

afik US has a trade war so closing ports to shipping, is a whatever..

What would be the risk? AFAIK any virus has a very limited lifetime out of a host, so the shipping times should be a built-in guard against a live virus arriving by ship.

From my understanding, sailings have been cancelled due it not being financially viable to stop at a port and only pick up a couple of containers, it needs to be a full ship to make money . China has disrupted the usual shipping services so the shipping companies are adjusting there schedules.
