The corona virus COVID-19

  michaelgm Chief Commissioner

One of my colleagues partner works at a hospital and told them that they (and their colleagues) have seen, both in the flesh and on security screens, members of the public rip off hand sanitizers of the wall, put it in their bag and walk out of the hospital. It is stunning.
2020 -  the year of Covid-19 & me, me, me and stuff everyone else. The last part also known as the 21st century.
During the fire crisis my wife and I were looking at how we could donate to support those back home, however we asked ourselves some questions.
1) If they have insurance they are covered?
2) if they don't have insurance why should we bail them out?
3) How do we ensure our money goes to the right people who worked to help others?

After reading your post and seeing all the panic buying stupidity and profiteering we are so glad we only gave money to support animal welfare and direct to some organizations not involved with human welfare, such as RFB. I know this isn't everyone and likely a few but I cannot help but wonder if any of these people had their hands out a few months ago.

Zero seriously zero, sympathy for those who don’t carry insurance. Difficult enough navigating the minefield that is an insurance claim. IIRC, the fire levy for emergency services, is now attached to council rates?
You took the risk and lost.

In NSW all heritage tours and similar events have been cancelled for all operators and the Valley Heights museum has been shut until further notice
Thirlmere remains open with hand sanitiser in many locations and the weekend rides cancelled
I assume operators in other states will be doing the same
On the comment about what is next to go, I think it would be heritage as the first to go, then luxury services like the Indian Pacific, Ghan and Overland second, regional travel such as V Line, tilt trains, the landers and the XPTs/Xplorers third, interurban services fourth and suburban lines last

Gunzelling will soon be limited to freight trains before too long.

Meanwhile, Australia's borders close tomorrow at 9pm for all non-residents and non-Australian citizens:

I hope that finally kills off Crown Casino etc.  Except that politicians will get cash under the table to keep them going.

Anyone seeing impact of the virus to freight train services yet? Thinking at some point, mines & industries may have to reduce production, either because a worker is infected or running smaller teams to reduce risk of catching virus.

I heard a train early this morning, so the Cameby Downs coalies are running. The Warrego Hwy through town is still wall to wall trucks...

We were Warned, this means Waugh.

Looks like Warnie is chipping into the Corono war effort with alcohol. Good on him.

We also need other brilliant minds to adapt their business operations in support of fighting this disease, while making money.

Travellers Aid society at Southern Cross and Flinders Street stations that provide many services to travellers especially those with a disability and the socially disadvadvantaged with a core paid staff and a large volunteer group have suspended volunteer input for the time being due to the COVID 19 outbreak .
Services will continue to be provided by the paid staff from this point for the forseeable future .

Looks like people are ignoring advice to self distance if yesterday's photo of Bon-die Beach is to be believed.

Social media posts of young people making daily Vlogs of their Corono ordeals makes it look like they are experiencing a light cold.

The California governor is locking down the entire state.

I think the 1 person every 4 square metres in the room rules is contributing to the ignorance. Time to lock down beaches and hot spot burbs. Actually, time to lock everyone down, including schools before the community transmission takes off.

I think anyone found to flout rules should be put on a train and taken to a camp on the TAR. Anyone with a known corono diagnosis found not isolating should be put on a train and dropped off at the camps. Anyone found selling tp at $2 per roll should also be dropped off at the camps (a tent city). Any pharmacy selling children's panadol at double the price should be sent to the camps. I know of two.

Time to get tough and put all these people together or we will see more deaths of innocent people through the selfish acts of others. When this thread first started, many of you thought I was overreacting, some of you thought that the hospital would keep the problem tightly contained blah blah.... but places like HK never took any chances, infected people were immediately separated from the population and sent to camps.

Many people are socially distancing and doing the right thing, but unfortunately, many are not and they can't help themselves.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. The Nullabor awaits and GSR (or whatever they are called) should go into overdrive helping infected and intransigent people "Journey Beyond"... Their sales from government work will skyrocket. May have to use freighters, and put pax in containers, car carriers, or cattle trucks. [I think I saw that in a movie once?]

New York City and LA now in lockdown.  It's starting to look like a couple of classic Kurt Russell movies...

I'm in absolute disbelief of the complacency of our border controls.
- No temp scanning at our airports.
- 2700 cruise ship passengers dumped off and let loose in Sydney with several of them now confirmed to have COVID-19.
- No enforcement of self-isolation.

We will be like Italy and Spain before too long.

I was thinking more the John Carpenter directed classics "Escape from New York" and "Escape from L.A."

In light of the 14-day self-isolation rule for almost everyone, just announced for the NT (coming into effect from 4pm this Tuesday), that'll put the brakes on the Ghan for some time.
