Bul Carrier at Portland, due to set sail on 5.3 is anyone aware of any wheaties venturing down to Portland this week?
trainbrain
Gidday trainbrain, no updates of trains but one of the field officers reported to me today a steady stream of trucks has been travelling through Cavendish from up North, quite a distance too. Lots of bellydumper trucks, not the usual trucks. So to me that would sound like trucks from interstate, possibly following work for who ever.

It's a bloody long time since working at Dimmy but the only bellydump trucks on site there used to follow the harvest from QLD. If there was a couple of thousand tonne, the Port Haul trucks from Portland would do the job, so anyone's guess who their working for and from where.

BigShunter.

also reported plenty of log trucks harvesting trees half locally ( Cavendish ) travelling to Portland.

Nhill 's under gas, trains the last 2 days at Lilimur.

heard a little story a week or so ago, Dim / Rainbow line to have work starting in a week or two, get it up and running at 15 kmh speed limit then planning done and  followed up with a rebuild to 23 ton axle load. The adjacent road is apparently pretty stuffed. Edges with 4 to 5 inch drop off and it's got alot narrower than it used to be.

A great video clip here of a grainy loading at Warracknabeal's GrainCorp site just on the northern edge of town. Plenty of footage along the line back to Murtoa showing some of the Wimmera's scenery during the post harvest summer, complete with trains departure to NSW.

Grab a cuppa and enjoy the view.

Very good james. A+ for consistency but probably a fail for productivity ! Dragging 30 wagons all the way to NSW you have to be joking..... 60 at least. Last year reckon they dragged 100 from Dimboola to central NSW, so it can be done, might as well make the trip worth while, I reckon.

I heard that they had 60 wagons until you went on board, and then they had to drop 30 off to keep the train to a manageable weight.Razz

Number of wagons depends on the product value on board.

Years ago we grew the only available SFT1 in any great quantity (about 1000t) in the south of the state and a fleet of shiny new trucks came up from Melbourne to pick it all up to take straight to the biscuit factory as soon as it hit the silos (im surprised they didnt come straight to the farm TBH)

Huge amount of grain at Dimboola, Murtoa, Berrybank has a hell of a lot.  (Why no rail siding at Berrybank?)

Nah Bevans, Nhill still under gas, SSR Lilimur, leave half train in Nhill then wander up to Lillimur with other half. Been extra trains on line so having a bit of a problem with lock outs from the main. The couple of extra PN trains on the main are full of toilet paper. Well that's the rumour.

OK, sure.  From the window of the overland there was quite a bit of rolling stock parked in the grain sidings so I made the assumption it was loading there.

What does under gas mean?

Fair enough Bevans, yeah sorry didn't mean to come across as a complete dil, half a dill maybe. Under gas is the bunkers are completely sealed, as well as possible, and gas pumped in to kill weevils and other assorted politicians and pests.

Is grain train loading at Lilimur done by a portable conveyor loader ? (I remember see one set up there about 2 years ago)

The bucket elevators In the old concrete and steel silo complexes Is regarded as way to slow for today's grain handling operations.
