Interested to hear that FMG is scrapping damaged/irrepairable ore wagons.Looks to be about 20 sitting at the scrap yard, there is also a large quantity sitting off track on stands at the workshops.
Are these accident damaged or just worn out?
Any idea how many, please?
Trivia: The class leaders of the initial order for ore wagons (1001 and 2002) were the last of the first 820 wagons placed on rail at FMG. These were placed on rail at the car dumper rather than at what was then the Marshalling Yard.
Some look to have derailment dings around the body, others I guess are just worn out, a lot of the fleet have blown side panels where the original style of car tapered in at the top and there was a weld seam there, that is rusting quite bad, with a lot of waggons having these panels replaced and then re-lined.
They have also taken delivery of quite a lot of new waggons also.
Below are a couple of pics showing a repaired and re-lined waggon pair and a pair with slightly blown side walls. I've seen a lot worse...
I'll attempt to get a couple of pics over the fence of the scrap yard in the next week or so.
