You really should live somewhere like Hong Kong where people are having their rights taken away from them as we speak - no right to protest, no right of free speech exactly as we're doing now. Then you might not be so cynical about the evils of communism.

If Andrews doesn't show her the door, then Albo needs to have a stern chat with him.
He won't do that! The federal ALP is rife with commies too... Kim Carr for one.

I'm surprised Albo hasn't already signed on to "Belt and Road", sounds like a lovely program for communist infiltration don't you agree.

How many reds are under your bed Don? You seem to see them everywhere. The only true communists left are in North Korea and you see how successful that basket case is. Perhaps Cuba, but people I know who have visited it tell me its quiet a friendly fun place. You can hardly call China communist. More like authoritarian capitalism, which is fairly close to fascism. I think to your mind anybody slightly left of Genghis Khan is a communist.

More people have died and been arrested in the USA in the recent riots and protests then in the entire Hong kong 'protests'. The CCP hasn't even sent the army in yet in comparison and nothing has happened along with the extradition bill dropped. No deaths! Weekend student Protests and marches are truly the 'revolution of our time'.
We've been Bombarded with it for ages, overshadowing much more important protests in Chile, Ecuador, Sudan and Iraq that have at least lead to something constructive happening, in comparison to hong kong.

So the loss of democratic rights is no big deal? Got it. I'll remind you of that when the secret police come round to your house to drag you off -

They call themselves 'communists' even though they're really not. The key to the definition is the complete lack of a participatory democracy, no rule of law (other than the party's rule of law) and no independent judiciary.

What would you rather me call them - the-totalitarian-regime-formerly-known-as-Communist China?

Yeah I support the one that has some respect for human rights and doesn't lock a million Muslims up in concentration camps and then pretend it isn't happening. Where's the outrage about that from the weepy left?

Please go to Melbourne CBD tomorrow and take note of every person not exactly more than 1.5m apart (including those in shops such as Myer), get their details and dob them in.

Then we'll know who the biggest hypocrite on Railpage is.

Something will need to happen, otherwise it will look like the face of the government is still being controlled by those the subject of the report. Dan cant brush this under the carpet and hope it goes away. Even with these allegations, as damming and powerful as they are, a limp opposition might again be his savior like it was at the last election. I am a transport enthusiast and had to look up who the opposition transport spokesperson in this state is. It's David Davis for reference.

The only reason I've know some vague face of the opposition is he tried to make a slight at Dan during the lockdown. Couldnt tell you his name, and everyones reaction was "Who the smeg are you"

The corruption in the Andrews Government just gets worse and worse.  The redshirts, Dumpling Dan Contracts and now this  it is hard to imagine any real work will be done today in the parliament.

This is the real acid test of Andrews' leadership. If he acts swiftly and decisively he may survive.

The one thing that  amazes me with all of these allegations of underhand payments and branch stacking is that the organiser of the whole shooting match believes that he can keep the lid on it. As soon as one more person knows about it, it is no longer a secret and, to steal a mathematical term, the chances of of it remaining secret are inversely proportional to number of people involved. NSW Labor gained notoriety for underhand and questionable dealings; now it's our turn in the deep south. It has been shown on prior occasions, that it only needs one power hungry individual who isn't very intelligent, and off we go again. Truly, those who fail to learn from history are fated to repeat it.

I guess it's, "stay tuned for the next exciting episode."
  Carnot Minister for Railways

The big questions for me are:
1) Adem has resigned (or been sacked) from Cabinet, but why hasn't he been sacked from the party?  He says he will defend himself against allegations via party process.  That'll get strung out no doubt.
2) He masterminded the changes to Local Council wards and elections recently which will concentrate power and gift wards to party hacks in many councils.  Should this be reversed?  (I sure hope so, but aren't holding my breath)
3) Will there be a clean-out of the stacked branches?
4) What about all the other hangers-on and those linked to Adem's corrupt dealing?  When will they go?

A set of good questions from Carnot, and my comments, if I may:-

1). He can't be summarily sacked from the Party. The Federal Executive has to do that. He can be sacked from the Victorian Branch but again, only by the State Executive.

2). Without knowing the exact extent of his operations, it's hard to see how a reversal or any other measure can be done. I hope that it can be measured, but again, it can't be an instant answer.

3). There should, but the "stackees" have technically paid to be members (albeit the cash was forked out by A N Other.) Unfortunately it's difficult to say that this is wrong. Suppose you have a poor neighbour who wants to join but can't afford it. It should be allowable for you to pay his fee. It's a grey area, and all a matter of how many and what intent.

4). This is going to take a hell of an investigation. The entire scheme (for want of a better term) has being going on for a long time. How many are involved? Who are they? What is the extent of their respective involvements? Did every one of them actually understand what was being done?  It's not a case of "you'll get a fair trial and be shot the next morning", it needs comprehensive investigation.

A couple of updates from the midday news:

  • Andrews has sacked Somyurek (despite the latter saying he resigned) from the Victorian Labor party and referred him to Victoria Police and IBAC (Vic's anti-corruption watchdog)
  • Andrews has also recommended to Labor's national exec. to remove him from the party nationally, with a meeting of that at 12:30 to decide on it.
