When did this supposed test run take place if in fact it actually did?  Would think a lot specialized wagons fitted with some form cradles would also be needed for the amount of curved sections that will be required for this project.  Media beat up more likely scenario .

What would the locos have been as we can look into the database at Bunbury.

I doubt that you will find this traffic Benalla to Melbourne at Bunbury. Smile

First train hasent even run, wagons havent been delivered yet. In addition to the tunnel not started to be dug yet so only a trickle of panels needs to make its way down in preperation.

I could understand that as the sightings from Bunbury Street show no concrete panels into Dynon on the SG.  There are however several light engine movements from North Dynon to the North East Line and return.  Driver training?

Imagine what the concrete might have felt given the following release from the union regarding the ride of the track to Albury:

Indeed. Some sections of that track make even a ride on the Rosstown Railway a more attractive option.

Has any further progess been made on the utilisation of the two additional sidings which have been added at Benalla?

When can concrete traffic southbound be expected to commence?

It would appear from today's update on the West Gate Tunnel Project website that tunnelling hasn't commenced yet. (Delayed by contaminated soil?). The video shows some panels on site at Maribyrnong already.

There Is a massive stockpile of finished panels at the Benalla plant.

The rail siding at Benalla looks to be In It's own separate pen (fenced off from the rest of the facility, without a hard stand) with ground level crane rails In place, but no overhead crane spanning the siding.

Given the soil issues at the West Gate Tunnel Project, presumably this is on hold?

Panels were being stacked along the plant side of the siding fence when we went past this morning with a large mobile crane doing the stacking. I've also heard rumours of a train planned in the not to distant future.

Great news.  Can't wait to see the start of the traffic.  Will this be Qube's work?

Here are my photos from yesterday

Siding from east line (not connected) eastern siding looking down. Can see the second siding to the left and the east line main beyond that.

East most siding from the east line Looking up to the station (not connected) is the eastern most siding.

Western siding on east line (not connected) looking UP.  The line to the left is the 1st siding or most easterly siding.

Standing on the western siding of the two with the east line main to the left.  This photo looking down.

Looking across the main lines from the eastern sidings. Cement tanktainers can be seen stacked in Benalla Yard

Standing between the western side siding (of the eastern group) toward the station with the east line immediately to the right.

Looking down standing between the western siding (eastern group) and the east line main.

The disused disconnected sidings on the East line are the decommissioned Benalla Loop and cripple siding.

Appreciate the feedback.  Are these the sidings being earmarked for the cement works?  I did see the cement works on the way back from Yarrawonga but have not researched as yet (only just back) the location relative to the rail ine.   The crossing near the cement works was closed for works yesterday and traffic diverted past the cement works.

I'm sure the disused disconnected tracks are earmarked for removal ! As per other decommissioned crossing loops.

I am confused i was under the impression the cement factory would be sending out via rail prefab components for the WGT?  How was this to happen?

There have been trains in there but none running a regular revenue service as far as I am aware.

There has been at least one loaded test train, the folly of which has been documented on RP a year or two ago.

The siding was only connected to the main line in September last year and I don't recall seeing anything concrete (Wink) on Railpage about a test train running. Do you recall where you saw it? All I've heard is rumours about it running but no one knows much else. I asked some Qube drivers about it recently but they didn't know when it ran or who drove it.
