I was located at a junction which served a dedicated siding.
I am in the western half of the State, outside the Metro area.

I'm not sure who has won here, probably Faredodger is closest, but the incident I am mentioning was a derailment at Kiata in 1953. In those days the Overland was God, like the SOP, not to be messed with and must go through. As the line was blocked at Kiata, the Overland was diverted via Hamilton to eventually arrive at Mt Gambier. The SAR had recently upgraded the line from Mt Gambier to Wolseley, from NG to BG, so the Overland was able to go that way and rejoin the main line at Wolseley.Very interesting Lad_Porter, what a scenic trip, you wouldn't have wanted to be in a hurry.
The opera singer was, of course, Marjorie Lawrence (although the Hollywood biopic would have us believe she came from Winchelsea - and the station shown therein bore little visual resemblance to the real Winchelsea station). I find it gratifying that we have cultured individuals subscribing to this thread.. Thanks Faredodger. The opera singer was the dead giveaway - I don't know about "cultured", but I'm certainly an opera lover! I'll be back as soon as I can think of something. (Exits stage left whistling "bella figlia dell amore").
