Irrelevant News Items

Recently there have been 2 news items totally unrelated to rail and thus have absolutely no place on this rail forum.

https://www.railpage.com.au/news/s/goondiwindi-silo-collapse-triggers-farm-safety-warning

and

https://www.railpage.com.au/news/s/buckingham-palace-starts-selling-its-own-gin

There are quite probably others.

Why are they here? Can these please be blocked?

I know, but I see no reference to that in the article.

I might just start submitting every news item I can lay my hands on...

Good idea Graham! This one about a new approach to finding underground water on Queensland’s drought-fatigued Granite Belt, is interesting, especially as that area has copped both drought and fires  deep:-new-approach-to-find-underground/12470064

So how did the articles mentioned above get through?

I'm also a bit miffed that the article I posted in the TL153 thread later appeared in the news as a "Letter from the Editor", complete with my edits for correctness (spelling, punctuation).

Interesting thats still happening here, how unsurprising though. A seeming repeat of the RRA facebook posts debacle from some time back.

Anyway, the most irrelevant new item dissections that are being started are ones from overseas with posters being like 'why don't we do this here', 'this show how far backwards we are' and so on. Irrelevant topics to us, relevant to overseas. Those are the ones that grind my gears.

Geez you guys are harsh.

So what would you prefer to see?

By way of stats we have 10,000+ news item reads per week coming from social media links and about the same directly.  What does this mean?  it means people are heavily reading the news articles on this site.

Anyhow back to the readers.

I'd like to see the News feature limited to rail related news or at very least any non-rail related news be categorised as such rather than categorised incorrectly as rail news. Then I can filter it out.

I don't care about social media, I don't use the likes of Farcebook.

I must extend this complaint to all those English rail museum articles, why are they on Railpage
I subscribed to the railway preservation news feed for Australian articles, shouldn't those English articles be under international news

Railpage is a railway forum, they are railway news articles.

They would seem to be railway preservation articles, so surely they belong in the Railway Preservation feed? I guess it could be split between Australia and the rest of the world...

There's a bug then, I'm still seeing it even though I don't subscribe to USA news.

As @bevans said he had corrected it to USA, I was seeing it as USA after that, but it was still showing for me when it shouldn't. After logging off and back on it no longer shows.
