Bombardier rail assets sale - one step closer

  justapassenger Minister for Railways

Yesterday the European Union gave conditional approvement the sale of Bombardier's rail assets to Alstom.

Alstom will be required to divest the designs and manufacturing plant for their Coradia Polyvalent regional express EMU platform.

Bombardier will be required to divest the designs and manufacturing facilities for the TALENT regional EMU platform, open up access to their onboard software and transfer their half of the Zefiro high speed train platform to Hitachi Rail Europe.

It will be interesting to see if further divestments are ordered once competition regulators in other non-EU jurisdictions have a look at it - ACCC in Australia, CMA in the UK etc.

Pending due diligence and other approvals, the sale is expected to go through in the first half of 2021.
