I mean, have you seen how much money that Ethiopian Railways has had pumped into it from the Chinese in the last decade?

No but it sounds like from your post it is a lot.  Is that a loco from Ethopia?

Yes the locomotive with Ethiopain Railways on the side of it is from Ethiopia.

They've spent upwards of $4 Billion (US equivalent)

The new terminal looks most impressive. Everything is on straight track, whereas Moorebank is folded in on itself due to lack of space.

It would of course be nicer if it were for a train load of Avocardoes rather than a container load.

Here is a problem.

(A) Should we start a new thread mentioning "avocardos, etc.?" OR
(B) Should we continue with the Ethiopia-Djibouti thread; but then here is no mention of Avocardoes on the "New Forum Posts" menu? OR
(C) Do (A) but cross-reference to (B) and vice versa.

(C) is more work to write, but covers both (A) and (B)

For ETHIOPIA-DJIBOUTI thread see https://www.railpage.com.au/f-p2190855.htm#2190855 as part of (C).
For PARENT THREAD (Africa -) see https://www.railpage.com.au/f-p2189234.htm#2189234

If we do (C) we can navigate the ET-DJ threads more easily. Smile

Doing (C) avoids having "Orphan" threads that gradually "fall out of sight."

As for the loco, the Green Yellow Red stripes are the colours of the main stripes of the Ethiopian flag. There is also a yellow star with five points on a blue disk in the middle of that flag.

It is noted that the area of Ethiopia and NSW is about the same, while the population of ET is about 13 times that of NSW. This makes it hard to justify really big rail projects in NSW. At least we have Inland Rail.

Most interesting story. Clearly brand new infrastructure. As it was with railways in the early 19th century, through the 20th century and now the 21st...with railways comes economic development.

The story as about a PILOT project of a container load of avocadoes to Europe. Assuming they don't arrived 'smashed'...pun intended, then possibly there will be many more containers of avocadoes.

This...among other things with the Belt and Road initiative is what Dan has in mind for Victoria, if we can overcome the secret agent and human rights abuses stuff.

The federal government has little jurisdiction over the states. It may even have to create laws to do so in this case.

Yes the link is primarily COVID, however it starts out with the Premier's view about BRI. Post COVID...at this point in the pandemic, it's a crystal ball exercise.

Waiting for this thread to degenerate by the regulars having a hissy fit about beloved leader and nasty commies, so I'll get in first.

BRI as written for Victoria, is about co-operative infrastructure projects in our region.
In particular Victoria exporting their expertise to the Pacific , supported by Chinese capital.
That would be of particular relevance to that great Chinese conglomerate - John Holland, CPB

Yes that what the Commonwealth Government are planning on doing.

There are trade opportunities coming with a trade deal between Australia and the United Kingdom

With friends like that working for the other side we are screwed.
