No information on the wheel profiles?
Sand is not applied to both sides of the powered bogies?

On the AM Down Swanners this morning or should I say Down Bendigo because it is a 3 car V/Locity this morning presumably due to a fail

Speaking of fails I assume one of the AM Up Melton / Wyndham Vale services was a non starter this morning as an N Class hauling what looked like a 6 car H set ran express through Footscray on the UP this morning empty cars
There was a defective AGS on the Swan Hill set which was why you had a V/Locity today, and the UP ex-Melton you saw had a defective HEP which was why it ran empty cars back to SCS.
I have no desire to know what an AGS is?

Touch wood, another good run on the AM Down Swan Hill this morning as we cruise through Taradale heading for a cross at Elphinstone. This service has been really good recently with pretty much on time arrival into Castlemajne being the norm

An announcement by our Connie this morning about the buffet being closed did prompt me to wonder, if cafes and restaurants are allowed to open on a takeaway basis and the N Set buffets are by their very nature take away only, why do they remain closed as they have been for months now?

It's all about reducing the risk.  They would have to have everyone's name and address too for contact tracing.

Yet all around the state and the country thousands of cafes and restaurants manage to do this. It's not hard. But of course they are small businesses who will go broke if they don't open as opposed to V/Line buffet conductors who are what, being paid to stay at home, I don't know?

As bit like trying to get a stat dec signed ATM - the police will not do it even in Castlemaine where there hasn't been a covid case for many weeks but they are quite happy to point you to the local JP who is willing and able to do it. So instead of just walking into the local station and getting a simple 5 minute job done you have to make an appointment with the JP who will see you at the local health clinic where you have to go and sit in a room full of people who are all there for an appointment as well and wait for your turn. How's that for reducing the risk!

It's all about masks.

You can't drink a coffee or eat a sausage roll while wearing a mask. Masks are particularly important in closed quarters like on a train.

That is my guess.

You would be 'dining in', so the space will be limited to 10 persons and they would have to take your name and phone number at least.

"Dining In" is only allowed for regional residents.

On the down trains, the pax are from Melbourne and take the Melb rules with them . Ask Shepparton how they like a Melb visitor breaking that rule.
IE no dining in. Take away ok, but of course you can't do that on a train

Still applies on the up train. No way for the conductor to know if the pax is a Melbournite.

as for taking off mask on train @Brenton for any reason, people need their head read.

cheers

Another rockin' good ride on last evening's Up 17.06 ex Castlemaine with some very nice driving indeed making for a pleasant and bang on time trip into town. This comes with the obvious caveat that any on time Up service gets stuck behind a spark between Watergardens and Albion so there is no chance of actually running early unless the preceeding Metro service is cancelled

A couple of points of interest, the service was run by one of the "commuter" V/Locity sets with only one toilet and few/no bike racks, the second time in a month that this has happened. Why V/line see fit to use these trains on the Bendigo line is beyond me and there were a couple of unimpressed cyclists who boarded along the way only to discover that they had to ride in the vestibule holding their steeds.

Also noticed that there is a For Lease sign at Malmsbury station and the building has been let. The sign indicates that it is only the Goods Shed but then describes it as 2 story and as the GS in only single story I think it may be the whole lot. Seems strange as a while back the building was described as being required for operational reasons.

What's so strange about it? . . . sounds like standard V/Line to me. The left hand knows not what the right hand does.

What does V/Line have to do with this?

I'll rephrase it. It sounds as though those responsible have taken lessons from V Line. I don't know this week's name of the responsible body.

Another failure at Southern Cross this morning. V/line trains were backed up to Footscray and it's taking an hour to clear.

And then this which I received at 3.13pm yesterday arv

"The 16:03 Southern Cross - Bendigo service will originate out of Footscray at 16:10 today"

I haven't seen that one before, no platform avl at SC? Seems strange though because they know about it almost an hour in advance. Surely they wouldn't have turned an Up service around as Footscray, that would be really messy.

Due to a safety incident at Southern Cross trains will be arriving and departing from a limited number of platforms (7, 8, 15 & 16). Multiple service changes and significant delays are expected.
VLINE

Something is happening at SCS.

There are also delays in the extreme heat policy across the V/Line network.
