With hindsight and (possible foresight), id be getting in and getting the short Stock-Illabo corridor done sooner rather than later.  Droughts are always just around the corner and now that the oeprators know how to get grain from SA to Queensland, id be thinking that corridor would get some use in the next downturn.

Way too logical, James. I like it.

But, it would need a huge project team, and countless meetings, to change the order of construction. Simply not practical in COVID times.

The Inland Rail B2G alternative routing via Cecil Plains was released on the November 2nd...short version - more expensive, with greater community impacts than the currently planned corridor through the Darling Downs.

So a delay to the program for nothing?

Look at the point speed differences between larger crossing loops and other shorter loops.
In control they are referred to as crossing loops  if they have enough length for a train to continue moving while a cross happens and have high speed points up to 80kph and non crossing loops or refuges 10-25kph.

occasionally the term passing lane will be used between control and drivers

Does this section use the existing alignment or is new route work required?  For Example, Moree is on the route?

It's all an upgrade of existing track apart from a 2.3km section north of Moree to eliminate a horse shoe curve where the North Star branch leaves the line to Weemelah.
The line is using the existing path through Moree but they are replacing a level crossing with a road overpass.

Err, no; Mungindi is not part of this gig. The contract is Narrabri - North Star.

If you are wondering where the route crosses into QLD, the line will veer to the NE (about where the current line veers to the NW, about 16km short of Boggabilla), until the new alignment meets the existing narrow gauge line near Kildonan, a former QR location.
