Austrain T class renumbering

Hi guys,

With the inevitable arrival of the SDS T class probably making my efforts on this moot, I'll none the less pose the question to the group, as to whether anyone has tried to renumber an Austrains T class form any of the models road numbers swapped across VR V/Line or Freight Australia liveries to be different from what was offered from Austrains?

I do know the metal side plates come off as I've managed this, however on the T there's the matter on the small number boards on the long end and the cab. Does anyone know if these are an inserted part from the manufacture where it is possible to remove these, or are they a sealed and integral part of the casing? Not interested in putting a decal equivalent over the existing as I donot believe this would be of a similar look to the original.

Hoping someone might be able to shed some light here? I figured I'd ask before bothering to delicately disassemble one to find I'm wasting my time?

I have tried a search of this site to confirm, but either the search function is vague, or it cant find what I'm asking (Austrains T class)

Regards

After 25 years of internets I see images still cant be uploaded to RP.

Options for the raised side number plates would be a brass etching or a 3D printed SLA part. Some of the cheaper SLA printers are producing some good results

I renumbered T408 to T386 about 10 years ago. Model Etch made me some brass plates, while the headboard numbers were, from memory from Bills Billboards - straight overlay of decal over the Austrains lens/old number. The old number is pad printed onto the clear lens.

Does this count? It was originally a FA T class.
It’s also 12mm gauge now.

The cab number boards didn’t come out with the windows. Pretty sure they’re just painted into the shell.   I just went over them with some black paint.

That looks like a great job Ikernan, well done.

Mansfield has probably hit the nail on the head re the number boards. The Bill decals on the illuminated ones is probably best, despite them actually looking oversized for the model.

I’d envision the SDS Model will come with their variant having illuminated number boards, which when these arrive I will endeavour to have a look at whether they are removable to achieve what I’m after.

Thanks for the responses.
