I am thinking this is a very positive step in the right direction for frequency.A positive step maybe but a pretty small one.
Where are the 10min all day services for Ringwood, Mernda, Craigieburn, Watergardens etc?
Where are the 20min services for Sunday mornings?
Where are the 15min (or even 20min) services for weekday evenings?
So much can be done with existing infrastructure and a bit of money... just run the trains and they will fill!!!
10min Service to Sandringham, Glen Waverley, Box Hill (local), Ringwood (express), Greensborough, Mernda, Coburg, Craigieburn and Watergardens should be the priority between 6am and 9pm, with extra services for the peak where possible.
Every 20 minutes from first train to to 6am and 9pm to midnight and every 30 minutes from midnight to 6am for the night network.
Alamein shuttle to be kept at 20 minute intervals (except where it goes to 30 minutes at night network), same as for Belgrave, Lilydale, Hurstbridge/Eltham (not sure what's possible there), Upfield and Williamstown/Altona Loop.
That would give the majority of the stations on the network 6tph all day service with some branch lines at 3tph.
Sunbury, Melton, Wyndham Vale, Geelong at 20 minute all day frequency, with electrification as needed to support the growing commuter belt.
