Yay, shall be getting some.

Just hope they do the right livery style, example Y1/2150 in AN reverse, has green on the battery boxes.

I assume those are just to demonstrate the liveries and they are the same drawing for all, for example the buffers are shown on all of them.

My bank account is going to take a hit, I think I want at least one of each Smile

That's what i'm worried about, getting one of each....

Now just gotta wait for the might Z class to be done, one day....

Any idea on timelines for the MR/WAGR F class? Will they come in 12mm gauge? Rough pricing? I couldn't find it on their website this morning.

This is what I have been waiting for, as I have very little room for Sn3.5, but don't want to scratchbuild everything in TTn3.5.

Cheers,

Matt

I will be buying one at least as my first Tasmanian model.

I'm guessing it's all coming out for the Brisbane Model Railway show this weekend, since SDS is there and the 1620 is a part of it.
Damn I wish they'd snuck a ZC/1300 in as well they're so close...

edit: yes, HOn3.5 as well as HO, late 2022 planned release.

I was surprised they didn't do the 1300/ZC class, since having 45 made etc.

ZC might be a future possibility, after all the 1620 gives you a correct mech and probably a lot of moulds already.
Then again, that also opens up the Z and some WAGR units.

In the meantime, I've got one on Shapeways...  (shameless plug over)

TASMANIAN LOCOMOTIVE MODEL ANNOUNCED!

This morning SDS models have announced the FIRST EVER ready-to-run HO scale model of a Tasmanian prototype locomotive, the TGR 'Y class'. And appropriately too, as it is sixty years this year since the first was built at the TGR Inveresk Workshops in Launceston.

SDS will be releasing them in both 16.5mm HO standard gauge and the correct 12mm gauge for HOn3.5. The ETA is late 2022 at this stage, so you have some time to save.

Livery details and numbers are still being worked on but as you can see from the second image, there is some good variation there.

A couple of notes;

-They have had to compromise on some areas to make it work - despite the many similarities between the WA 'F class' and the Tasmanian Y, they obviously have different bogies. So the TGR Y will have slightly shorter bogies than prototypically, in order to make the chassis drive-train/gears have sufficient commonality and to keep costs down.

-The model will be available in both DC and DCC sound.

-As you can see they are also releasing the very similar WA 'F class' that ran on the Midland Railway of WA in an equally nice red livery before being absorbed into the WAGR network and repainted into those colours. The QR 1620 class has the same length as the F, so despite no other similarities, thats been added to the group.

-Despite the variations made to the Y class over the years by Australian National and later Tasrail, SDS will only be producing ONE version. So the later units will be correctly painted, but some details will be incorrect. They can't justify the tooling expense, so if people want theirs to be precisely correct, they will have to modify them themselves. But the early versions will be correct of course.

The model railway market for Tasmania is obviously very small, so this will be a very small run by normal standards, but if EVERYONE who likes this page bought just one - it will go well. No pressure.
Order forms with details of numbers and precisely what colours etc to be available in due course

They've now appeared on the SDS Models website along with a note that samples are due by Feb 2022 and order forms will be released at that time.
