There's plenty of evidence of the old line, the alighnment is clearly visible from the air and whee one is looking directly down where the line was.
If you take a trip down the Samaria rd, when on cross the creek just on the outskirts of Benalla, the line was around 200 metres to the west, one can see the remanents of the old bridges. Just after crossing the creek the line vears of the east and ran immediately west of the road from just south of the freeway, right out until the road turns slightly east. Part of th way down this road is a gate way to farm that is still set back from where the line was.
Drive out the road a few more kilometres to Karn rd, right down the end of this road just to the north is the site of Karn station.
Around another 8 to 10 kilometres further out is Castle Hill rd, drive down there (be carefull the road is narrow with some blind corners) Just after the road straightens out after crossing a creek was Lima Station, there is a station sign near the old embankment. One can see some cattle yards some 200 metres down the old line these are what was left of the original yards..Note when the line was there the yard for the station went around another 50 metres to the east of the existing road. The road went around to the east to a level crossing 50 metres or so away from the existing crossing. Just to the north of the line in the paddock only 50 metres west of the road was the old goods shed, the stations platform being a few more metres west on the other side of the line.
Now go back down Castle hill road and turn south down Samaria road and near the Tatong road intersection (well somewhere around there) on the right is a mile post from the line. If one goes a round 500 metres south. Just past Morngag creks is the sight of another station. It is also.sign posted. Now go back to the Tatong rd an turn down it, just wher the old Tatong rd turns of for many years was the remains of the timber cattle grid from the level crossing.
The new Tatong rd runs along the old alignment so little remains, the road actualy appears to run over where the platform was. If one stops and has a look at the northern end of the old yard in the paddock is an introduced tree. I believe this is where the station residence was.
There is a number of photos of the old line in the Tatong pub, stop there for lunch (I hope) and have a look, when I was there I believe some of the captions on these were not real accurate.
