I think its just a case of the ballast settling still.

Posted 24 Mar 2012 17:44 in South Australia by STT

The dis-appearring points might be that they were laid and then the opening of the railway line was announced and they realised that they would not be able to get it fully installed, tested and workin ...

Nearmap has been updated, and the Elizabeth turnback is now visible. The middle siding has a length of 200m.

Has any tamping begun yet?

Track was being laid through Salisbury today.

I think they r also running jumbos tomorrow on the Outer Harbour, Mawson, and Noarlunga lines.

They usually do. I took a jumbo to Adelaide when I had a Saturday exam on pageant day a few years back ...

The dismantled track segment is on the Coles side of the rail line, so the switch is a left hand switch.

Posted 02 Nov 2011 19:34 in South Australia by STT

The track is starting to be reconstructed at Mawson's.

Ballast was being laid at the Mawson Lakes - Greenfields section today.

I doubt that they'll change the layout. Its not uncommon for an up train, a down train and a terminating train to be using occupying all 3 platforms during peak times. Keep in mind that Platform 1 has ...

Tracks from Gawler to Gawler Central have been lifted.

The road on Platform 1 at Gawler through to the Roseworthy line remain, however.

The track has been lifted though Smithfield.

Any news on the GWA front?

Track has been lifted past Salisbury.

(EDIT: Tracks have been lifted THROUGH Salisbury, I'm not sure of the state of the tacks on the other side of the level crossing)

The tracks into Gawler stati ...

When/how do you think they are going to do the section that goes right through the Mawson Lakes platforms?Haven't they already done it?

It was done when they originally built Mawson Lakes i believe ...

As for an update of work performed, just from my trip this morning the track from Mawson Lakes to Greenfields platform has been lifted.

IIRC, it was already gone by Wednesday afternoon. Not sure  ...

I saw two front end loaders on the tracks, one at Smithfield, one at Salisbury.

Depends where they're starting, doesn't it? I remember stage 1, where they had the tracks to North Adelaide ripped up ...

I catch the train twice daily. The train missing the marking is rather rare, but what is more common is the train stopping near the marker when the ramp is on the far side of the carriage!

The Gawler line is being closed on Sunday, this weekend, between Salisbury and Mawsons. I have no idea what work is being done though.

Posted 20 Aug 2011 02:00 in South Australia by STT

I'm wondering, why is it even with the new sleepers, that the ride is still quite bumpy and jolty?... the new line between Adelaide and Mawson certainly isn't as smooth as I expected.

Is it to do w ...

There have been concrete sleepers placed near Smithfield (Kudla side).

The canopy is rotten though. How and where is it getting moved? What it needs (at least) are its posts replaced and extended, it'll be sad to see it go.

I think I first saw this heading home on Tuesday on the 9.50pm Gawler train to see a jack-knifed 4 car jumbo set with cranes and work lights around.

I noticed that the trailer near the yard has its ...

From my experience with the Gawler line, it'll take a few weeks until trains will be running to timetable. Mind you, that may have been mainly due to the Dry Creek section.
