Yesterday the 5pm train to Ballarat crawled between Southern Cross and Footscray with two long stops. It seemed much quicker when we stopped at North Melbourne.

As for the wifi, buy a router for a couple of hundred bucks and connect it to an antenna on the roof. It's not rocket science.

More trains badly needed on the Ballarat line to avoid terrible overcrowding. We often have to make do with two carriages. Not good enough.
