The yard in Alice has quite a collection-NR74 from the other day, the FJ (104?) running around the yard and there is a VL at the Stuart Highway end of the yard, no idea where it came from or where its going.

There were some other lights in the yard, maybe 3DA2 was coming in at around 1800 tonight?

Haven't set foot in the Alice for 12 months and theres been a few changes:
-Level crossings at Espie Street, Larapinta Drive and Lovegrove Drive now have LED lights and boom gates.
-Two aspect signalheads have been installed at the Larapinta Drive and Lovegrove Drive crossings for trains departing the yard, possibly automatic level crossings fitted?
-Extra signalling/control cabin at the Larapinta Drive end of the yard where the second line used to enter the yard.

705 should be the shunter in Alice Springs as it went up on 7AD1. It replaced GM45 which then headed north on 7AD1. GM45 replaced FJ104 about a week before that.

A few days ago we had a GM and a FJ here both shunting.

I found myself stopped at the Larapinta Drive level crossing today to allow for the passage of the southbound Ghan at 12:55pm. One carriage in particular caught my attention; it appeared towards the end of the consist painted dark brown with cream trim and roof. The roof itself was approximately 300mm higher than the regular stainless steel carriages. A plaque was mounted on the side however I was too far away to make out what was inscribed upon it.

Does anyone have a hint as to what this carriage was doing on the Ghan?

Also there were three motorail wagons on the end of the consist. The first wagon held 8 vehicles whilst the trailing two held only a single vehicle.

Cheers
