The overpass will have room for 2 tracks underneath it. Within the next couple of years you will see two tracks under it.

What's the other track going to be for ?

A siding for the livestock quarantine station ?
"Nightfire"

Just extra track for the yard

Removal off the crossing would be a big help for all transport users In the area.

So no rail loading takes place on the wharf at the moment.

No loading on the wharf, but lots of unloading. Several thousand tons per week.

Yesterday afternoon work was still progressing on the new level crossing, there are traffic lights before the level crossing lights (and presumably boomgates) which have been fitted to either side of the carriageway that runs from Palmerston to the new intersection.

They are around 5-10 metres back from the level crossing, more to follow...

It was VL356 EL58 and VL358 last weekend. So they must have been the EL and VL I saw Tuesday ready to go south with a CL.

Here are some shots from the Darwin area from the last month.
The new Tiger Brennan extension allows access to a few good locations, I will have to go along there and get a few shots.

Here are some more shots from a trip to Adelaide River today. The VL's were not expected and as I arrived in Adelaide River I spotted them so I had to hot foot it north to get a shot.

.... and you didn't bother to drop in and say hi or find out the photographers intentions ?
I can tell you now it was not trains, but he did manage to have the lightning trigger go off as every single wagon of the ore train went past..........

I'd left Harts Range at 0500 this morning to come home and for some unknown reason looked over and saw a car and tripod set up. For the next five minutes I picked my brains at what would of been running on a Sunday at this time.

Thirteen hours and 1481km later-I need a shower and bed. I've already had the beer.

If you have the time, head down the track and get some pics. Most of the creeks have water in them all the way down to Alice Springs and the areas around the four highway overpasses are green for miles.

HL203 should be up there now. It went up on 2AD1 on 3/1 to replace GM45. GM45 left Darwin on 1/1 on 7DA2.

Not so sure on that, but I will go for a drive to have a look. It was only late last week we had a FJ and a GM as the shunters here.

The HL is up here being used on wharf and yard duties. Wish they wouldn't send up locos with stuffed air con. The GM has gone down to Alice Springs to replace FJ104 that has been sent to Adelaide for repairs to an internal fire.

Got a feeling today was the last day of operation of the Tivendale Road level crossing, the road will be closed from tomorrow and odds on the hut and equipment will be moved to the new Wishart Road crossing before the week is out.

It is, by Sunday night the new section of Wishart Rd will be ready for traffic.

The new crossing is now open, it got delayed by about a week due to the wet weather.

The next crossing to keep an eye on is the Berrimah Rd one, I noticed lights and booms being installed on the yards side of the mounds of dirt that will one day become an overpass.

G'day all,
Just noticed on Google Maps that there is an additional siding down at the wharf end.  Does anyone know how long it has been there and how often it is used?
Seems to be for a vehicle holding area.  Is this for vehicles coming off ships in Darwin or is it just a storage area for vehicles coming up from the south?
Cheers, Ike
