Hey, Katie.  Are you coming to drink the champagne on the Silver Streak on Saturday night ?
  PE Chief Train Controller

I saw some work happening at the station today looked like sleeper replacement on the Daylesford end points. I would love to help out but very rarely have the time, maybe next year.

What needs to be done to 32 after the timber frame is completed?

I remember reading that 32's engine was stuffed and that it is to be replaced with 24Rm's is this true?
"639"

All the roof frame is currently also being repaired and once the frame is completed the next item will be the masonite ceiling panels. This is due to the size of the panels (largest is 3.4m x 1.6m) the easiest way to get them into the train is via the front windows before anything is refitted there.

Yes the engine from 24 will replace the very tired one in 32 but only after a rebuild and when the car is split which is some time away yet.

What's that you say, EdithPF? Champagne train? Mmmmm, that sounds awesome. Just imagine it; Saturday night champagne & nibbles-, only on a train, no less! A delectable combination! I could certainly do worse than take you up on that suggestion.

Hi all,

The DSCR website has been updated with photos of 32RM and inserting point timbers in Daylesford yard. They can be found in the 32RM and maintenence galleries on the site

There's also this shot of snow at Bullarto on 28 September!

Hi all,

More photos have been added to the DSCR website in the 32RM gallery and maintenence gallery.

As you can see, some solid progress is being made on 32RM since work recommenced on this railmotor earlier in the year.

Off the top of my head, the following has been done:

- An extensive amount of frame timber in the pass car has been replaced
- Electrical work has been undertaken on the pass car and is still continuing
- The toilet has been removed to allow work to continue on the floor
- New insulation has been installed in the ceiling
- New floorboards have been cut for the outer edges of the floor
- New ceiling panels have been constructed

Remember, it's never too late to get involved with this exciting project to return 32RM to service at the Daylesford Spa Country Railway, Victoria's home of railmotor preservation! Smile

Well 32RM will be a fairly long project (even though we're making alot of progress), so hopefully you might get a chance to have a go at some point! Smile

Haha, no I didn't get run over by a CPH, but I was trying to catch up on sleep last weekend and forgot... Embarassed

It is interesting to note the similarities between the NSW CPH and our Leyland railmotor 53RM:

53RM is currently in the shed and the roof has now been renewed. The sides of the car are currently being worked on. When it comes out of the shed, it should be a big improvement over when it went in!

Hi all,

Some great progress is being made on 32RM by the volunteers at the DSCR. Last Saturday saw the first ceiling panels being installed into the passenger car section. For photos of this, check out the 32RM restoration gallery.

Remember, new volunteers are always welcome and this is a great project to get involved with.

Interesting photos 639.

I've just done some more updates to the site. Photos of 32RM's wiring and ceiling panels have been added, along with some shots of HH2, B91 and Daylesford yard.

There's also shots of the joint VGR & DSCR christmas party, which was hosted by the DSCR this year and featured a good turnout of members from both societies.

As usual, go to http://www.dscr.com.au/ and follow the links to the photo gallery Smile

After digging through some photos I came across these... Last train to Daylesford.

As can be seen in one of the pics the turntable has Queenscliff painted on it. The plan was to move the turntable to Queenscliff.  It was strange, at the time of closure 1978 people were fighting to keep it in Daylesford even after the line had closed.

It is interesting to note the similarities between the NSW CPH and our Leyland railmotor 53RM:

They were virtually the same thing, the important thing was the six and a half inch difference in track gauge.

The reason that "Queenscliff" was painted on the turntable is that the  GSPS own the thing and were marking their property to ensure that it wasn't accidentaly cut up.

We should be thankful that they did paint "GSPS Queenscliff" onto the table; nearly thirty years later it's still in situ where it belongs - for this the railfan community should be grateful.

Thanks for updating the thread 639 Smile

As everyone can see, we are making great progress on 32RM now. While there is still a long way to go and alot of work to do, it should look great when finished. Smile
