And what of the ACZ which has been stored with accident damage, wow it could have been repaired instead and refurbished to actually carry people!!!   If the car was considered suitable enough to be heavily rebuilt to become a power van then it could have been for far lower cost repaired and returned to service at a time when V/Line or better still the Government and Community desperately needs more capacity on its system.

Why would they repair, gut and convert an ACZ (first class) car to a power van when they have three completely useless MTH carriages stored away which will never see another passenger?

The ACZ being converted to the Power/Brakevan would have a very much stronger body frame to support the heavy vibrating diesel alternator set, and secondly ots body profile matches that of the mainline passenger cars .

The three (3) stored MTH cars may well get converted to additional SH cars given the chronic overcrowding on Melton & Bacchus Marsh services .

Add them to a ssh set to bring them upto 7 cars, be about the same length as a 6 car VL or 6 car Spark

After all there has been talk/rumor/wishful thinking of 7 car SH sets before and then 1 6 car LH

Is that why v/line just put two p class loco's into storage?

P Classes are absolutely flat out at 100KPH...if they can reach that speed which takes several Km to do so. Meanwhile the slow train has other faster 160KPH trains following behind which makes for a cascade effect in the timetable.

You got it . The need now is for longer H sets, not more H sets as there are no more peak paths on RRL all taken . So now the smart move would be to make up 7 x7 car SH sets, and 1x6car LH set = 8 sets with seating capacity of 430 each using all 55 H cars . If needed convert the 3 spare MTH to make 3BIH extra in the PPM pool .

No more Push/Pull H sets as of 27/08/17 tt .  Releases 4 bg P class , which will probably be stored once new timetable settles down .
  SN7 Chief Commissioner

Sadly H sets will hit the scrap heap as more VL sets enter traffic, I feel,

They have had a BH car (141) stored for years -

The 7 car set proposal is not possible with existing platform lengths / signal
Locations - and cabling on the cars - nor siding space in bank at SCS

Used to run a 7 car Push Pull in the past but not possible since all train not fitting on platforms at Melton and other locations -

Auditor General highlighted age of rollingstock as a x against V/Line and governments listen - expect more Vlocitys to continue to replace H sets at a rapid rate.

Stored MTH cars would require massive rebuild of something 60+ years old - not going to happen - surplus Comeng trailer carriages would be more viable when they start getting withdrawn , supposed to be in  2017/18 year .

Spotted a freshly painted (and converted) BDN263 (ex BZN263) in new PTV livery in the sidings beneath Latrobe St this afternoon.
