New Car Set FN3 and other V/Line fleet changes

Busy weekend for travel on the North-East line again...

Rang up V-line bout 1230 today to try and reserve a ticket on the 1355 coach leaving Shepp, joining 8324 at Seymour at 1519.

Was first of all informed that reservations were not available on my bus component, which I found surprising, considering reservations are available on just about all other coach connections. Secondly, I was informed that there was no economy reservations available on the 8324 from Seymour. I debated with whether or not just to try and travel unreserved all the way from Shep to Melb on both the coach then the ex Albury train, but in the end decided I didn't want to end up stranded at Seymour waiting for some back-up coaches and reserved for the 1705 direct Shep train instead.

Turns out now I may have being able to squeeze onto the BCZ 259 on the 8324 but by Seymour that unreserved car may have being filled by the unmanned stations along the line.

Anyway rock up at Shep station bout 1655, turns out my service was only an N-set! Cars B & C were about 80% on leaving Murchison East, lucky from there on in passenger loadings were low and there were a couple of people getting off too. Couple of 'heated debates' noted in Car B as passengers argued over people sitting in their reserved seats. On disembarking at Melb first class was noted as being about 60% full also, not a bad result.

Reservation chaos reigns!

N460+FN5+FSH25 arrived into Southern Cross ex Newport Workshops at 1159.

FN5 contained newly added to the set and converted carriage BZN252, which was also in the new V/Line grey/purple/white/red livery, the first N/Z/S type carriage in these colours.

Any idea where FN5 may be heading this avo/evening? Be nice to see a visual of the new livery on an N carriage.

Just a quick question, are these Z converted carriages recieving blue upholstery in an N style seating arrangements like the refurbed FSH 25 or are the just the standard N brown/red colour like the rest of the N fleet?

As far as I know, its just the standard N brown/red colour like the rest of the N fleet. No funding was allocated for internal refurbishment of N/Z/S cars, just power doors.

At this stage, FN5 is rostered on the 1833 down Shepparton.

As always, it'd be greatly appreciated if anyone can grab some photos of BZN252 for me for V/LineCars.com

In other news, I'll confirm that BZN252 has new carpet, seat covers, curtains, and decals as per the H cars.

Also has two fold down seats and a detraining ladder.

Hope to have photos online in the coming day or two.

I have established a thread for sightings of BZN252 over in the sightings forum, similar to that of FSH25.

Of Interest - car BZN 252 would have to have been one of the most repainted steel bodied carriages in Australia.

Entering Service as 2 AZ  (56 Seats) it was blue & gold, then from around 1983 tangerine with silver stripes  internal refit and teacup logo, then tangerine with Silver stripes and Guards Compartment  and V/Line logo,as 252 ACZ (52 Seats)  -then the second version V/Line Livery with grey roof and white and Green stripes below the window level, then was painted grey for the 1988 Royal Train, then back to The standard tangerine & grey V/Line Livery, then sold to West Coast Railway , who replaced the V/Line logo with a West Coast W, then was repainted WCR Blue Livery (the first car to appear in this livery) then rebuilt with area for Special Needs Customers (48 Seats) and painted again into WCR Blue Livery then back  to V/Line Passenger and painted red livery, the car was then Stored and Sat idle at Newport for just under 12 Months , It was then rebuilt as BZN252 - V/Line New livery (76 Seats)  - Two tone Grey-purple white and red.

Certainly BZN 252 has a very colorful history.

The next rebuilt car BZN 267 will be painted as well as for the first N full set Should be FN 14 set and VN 12, which should appear before christmas.

Wasn't one of the ACZ cars the first to be painted into V/Line Mk1 red? And it was one of the last ones still in Mk1? ACZ259 IIRC?
  SN7 Chief Commissioner

That is correct I beleive  - 259 was the first car painted red.

Yep, ACZ259 was the first car in the red livery; if you don't include Norman of course 😛

Thanks for that paint history SN7; I was thinking of compiling a similar list last night, but couldn't be bothered 😆

More external photos of BZN252 from this morning will be online later this afternoon.

Interesting to note that the West end of BZN 252 has retained the old ACZ Stable (split) Door Style door, I wonder if the top half still opens QuestionTwisted Evil Observation deck anyone QuestionRazz
"dalts 1985"
They BCZs got fixed into a single door a while back, by the fitting of a steel plate across the two halves.

The car was stabled at Geelong last night

Sorry that I couldn't post these photos yesterday.

Hi there,

Yesterday on Thursday 26th of October 2007 I went to observe BZN252 around Sunbury. It was running the 1300 up Swan Hill. Here are my photos.

BCZ252 was on the 1809 Geelong service tonight, i wasn't able to get pictures as my camera battery died on me at North Melbourne.

The BZN conversions are now on hold which now means BCZ 257 will return to Southern Cross from Newport next week (probably Tuesday waiting driver availability) and re-enter revenue traffic.
