Two of those attempted downloads would be from me. I click on it and nothing happens.

(I'm running Windows 7 and using the Chrome browser.)

Please try the direct link to the download. I have been able to successfully download the file.

I'm getting the same error on Win 7 and 8 when I try to open the file downloaded from Railpage.

For a screen shot, see the link by Petan.

I do NOT get this error when I open the original file I sent in.

I am getting the same error from ANY Google Earth file I download from Railpage.
  sthyer Deputy Commissioner

I've tried to open it, I get a "/Users/sthyer/Documents/LRRSA/AUS Tracks 2014-05-01.kmz" failed: Parse error at line 2, column 2:

not well-formed (invalid token)" failure.

i have downloaded the file from Railpage and note there were zero issues in the download. the problem starts when you attempt to open the file in google earth.  this does not work.  the file will not open.

can the file be uploaded again? could it be a dead file?

Interesting. I converted the KMZ to a KML file and opened it in Mapinfo, but if I try to open either in Google Earth I get

"Open of file"C:UsersxxxxxxxDocumentsRailwayAUS Tracks 2014-05-01.kmz" failed: Parse error at line 2, column 2:

           not well-formed (invalid token)"

The imported file is map only - no data.

Once again, Dr Waddles has volunteered to host this file on an alternative site as follows:

http://www.ozroads.com.au/rail/hairyleg_aus_tracks_rev04_2014_05_01.kmz
Try this if the Railpage download fails.

If it opens into "Temporary Places", just drag and drop it into "My Places" so that it will be there every time you open Google Earth, and remember to remove or turn off any old versions you might have, otherwise you will be seeing double.

I have enjoyed myself by leaving the older versions on and clicking the new one on and off to reveal the new lines SmileSmile Quite an extensive update around SE QLD and I assume elsewhere as well. A small list of some of the upgrades; The Fairfield pre 1896 route to Dutton Park is there as is the extra trackage in the Rocklea Industrial Estate where Comeng made the Clyde locos and you will note the English Electric yard tracks came through Comeng. The Benowa Gold Coast sugar mill lines, Fraser's sugar Tramway at Terranora, Pt Danger quarry line, many parts of the Tweed Heads QR line have been redone as has parts of the Neranwood Tramway as well as parts of the present day electric line to the Gold Coast. The Worongary ballast quarry line for the 1903 Tweed Heads construction is in.

Canungra township has the extra lines as per P.10 of Laheys' Canungra tramway by Robert K. Morgan, revised by Frank Stamford 2000. Parts of the Canungra and Beaudesert tramways seem to be redone as well. Ipswich Roundhouse and associated areas have appeared as have some West Moreton area mining / industrial lines. Extra lines around the Brisbane river, both sides, as well as St Helena Island tramway. The Petrie paper mill is in. Nambour tramways has changes as well. Aratula has changes as well.

Even that small sample of these upgrades around SE QLD is fantastic and many thanks to both Hairyleg and those who supplied the data and other assistance SmileSmileSmileSmile

Also found the Gabba branch area has benefited from improvements with the PMG and Hancock & Gore sidings in off Ross and Henry Sts on the northern end of Albert Station. The tramway sidings at Jurgens St the Gabba are there as well.

EDIT; PMG was telegraph style poles yard and PMG was Post Masters General, later split into post office and phones etc as separate government mobs.

To hairy leg. I'm a newbie. I have some corrections and one new track in Victoria to give to you to add to the file. What is the best way? A picture or do you have how to create the kmz file myself on the site?   Brilliant work you've done. Looks like a PhD in Australian railway history should come your way! !

Hi all,
I've tried to make use of this file (quite looking forward to it).  Despite talk above about it being a zipped file, it no longer downloads as a zip file, just the kmz file.  However, when I try to open it in Google earth I get an error saying "failed: Parse error at line 2, column 2: not well-formed (invalid token)".   Has anyone else experienced this? or knows how to get around it?
Thanks.

OK, sorry, just worked it out!

So for anyone who may have the same problem, .kmz is a zipped version of .kml , but is not recognised by Winzip.  Use Winrar (for example) to unzip the .kmz file.  Then all will be OK.

Just like to take the opportunity to thanks Hairylegs for sharing this wonderful piece of work with us.  Thanks!

I welcome any and all contributions and corrections.
These can take the following forms:
Some simple advice - "this bit looks wrong"
Some suggestions - "it followed that road"
A reference to better data - "check out this link"
A copy of a source - "here is a map/plan I scanned/photographed"
A digitised line -"here is a kml/gpx/plt I prepared"

Looking forward to your help.

I was unable to load the new file from the Railpage site. I did remove the previous version. (I got the Level 2 parse 2 error as above). I was able to download though through Dr Waddles site. (WIN7 64bit). So thank you again Dr Waddles & particularly Hairylegs.

I have heard of success with Android. I haven't been able though, to load onto my Samsung Tablet N10.1 or my HTC one 'Phone. (I get "not found.") Using KLMZ & shortening file name.

Has anyone else had success with this and any tips?Smile

I just noticed that two locations seem to exist up in the NE Corner of SA, east of the Birdsville Track:

Milkappa - never heard of it.

Panitya - this is also the last location on the Vic side of the Pinnaroo line.

Presumably wrong co-ordinates.

Thanks for that.
Clearly they are errors in co-ordinates.
These I will fix.

The Railpage download folder has two versions of Hairylegs; 1-5-2014 and 08 May 2014. http://www.railpage.com.au/downloads/cat-10/sub-21/

Are these two versions of Hairylegs actually different files?

The one I had since earlier this year is hairyleg_aus_tracks_rev04_2014_05_01

Yes they are two different versions of the overlays.  The date indicates the variance.

If you have a newer version, please upload.
