    Not Piangil, Maryborough or Drysdale. Good speculation Rod, but the people on the ground are passengers, they were allowed to alight.

    That narrows the field.  I thought that it might have been the disaster Steamrail trip which failed at Traralgon, where passengers couldn't alight to get dinner, photographed with infrared film.

    I'll enter Charlton, but that was another place where paying passengers were not allowed to alight.

    It is indeed Sale, on the spur siding that once led to the original station site (is that the super siding?)

    Ironically taken on the 'disaster trip' Roderick mentioned, though it hadn't yet become a disaster at that point. The train set back into the siding to water and cross an up pass, and I believe it may have been the last time passengers were allowed to disembark not at a platform, with the exception of Wycheproof.

    The tour was the first return of steam to Bairnsdale after the re-opening, 29/10/05.

    The former line that led from Montgomery (Bairnsdale way) Into the old Sale station can be seen In the background of your photo, It ends at a baulk next to the trees.

    As our previous quizmaster hinted, I was a passenger on that Sale tour, and did alight at that location, using a carriage obtained from SA which was built for ground-level access, but which Victorian quangos can't envisage as usable for that purpose any more.  At Traralgon, it would have been possible to use mobile phones to access local pizza parlours; the product could have been passed from ground to window.  It is no surprise that 'old hands' don't book on potential disasters any more.

    Now for the 'Nightfire' photo.  The trees are not sugar gums, so Tourello Loop.

    Valvegear, you are correct.

    DERM 60 has departed Melton Station and drops down the grade towards the Melton Reservoir steel bridge at 3:20pm on Tuesday 12th June, 1979.

    My younger brother and I had been taking some photos of trains at the large bridge over the weir and were walking back to Melton station to catch the next 'up' train so we could get back home to Clayton.

    DERM 60 was running a 'down' Bacchus Marsh pass and we had to make sure we were back at Melton to catch it on the 'up'.

    We arrived at the station with about five minutes to spare.

    I was 16 years old at the time.

    Retromelb you are correct - it is Bank Box Loop.

    The 'up' Dimboola Pass hauled by B-65 and T-334 crosses B-64 on a 'down' goods at Bank Box at 7:37pm on Wednesday 16th January, 1980.

    My younger brother and I intended to ride the 'down' pass to Dimboola on this day and return on the 'up' in the afternoon.

    However we only made it as far as Ararat as an interstate goods had derailed at Great Western, blocking the line.

    We had to transfer to a road coach at Ararat and travelled the rest of the way to Dimboola and return.
