The "News Section"  - Latest Issue of AMRM within the Southern Rail news has them noted as being "announced" at the Newcastle Exhibition and arriving late 2013, early 2014 depending on available slots at factory in China.

Ah right, never mind then. Either way, same applies as being said in other topics at the moment, they arrive when they arrive, of course. Wink

The hoppers all have a similar body shape however there are differences between batches, the first batch are quite a bit higher and this is most noticeable when they are next to a second batch (AR kits) version. Also the cut away holes on either side of wagons where the two ends of hopper taper down towards chassis in the centre are a different shape and size on each batch. The AR kits are a nice wagon and i will be keeping mine but it will be good to build up a rake with some variation and if you throw in a couple of Casulas Cement hoopers should make a nice prototypical 80s block cement train.

So the body shape is the same, regardless of contract

This height difference is most likely because of the different bogies fitted between the different contracts as I mentioned previously, Although having said that its hard to pick even at 1:1

Photographic evidence suggests that there are two (2) versions of this cutout you mention at the base of the hopper tapper.

- Larger cutout follows profile of hopper on PRX / NPRF (1st Contract)

- Small rectangle shaped cutout with curved ends on PRY / NPRY (2nd / 3rd Contracts)

I don't have one in front of me but (I am willing to stand corrected) I don't think the AR Kits version has any / either cutout in this location.

I suppose we shall have to wait and see what is actually to be produce from Southern Rail, at the moment all we are doing is navel gazing.

Agreed the AR kits wagon with the addition of KRM walkway etches make up into a nice model.

Agreed, looking forward to Casula's PCX model release for the same reason

Cut outs are different on all 3 batches in photos i have however this may not be the case for all wagons in a particular batch. Some have a longer cutout, there are 3 shapes of cutout i have seen.AR kits version has no cut out,1st ,2nd and 3rd batch all now run with 2CM bogies and 1st batch body is higher so definatley different body.

Had an email exchange with Rocket.
Order forms are coming soon.
No contract 1 being done, 2 and 3 only. (at least initially)

Thats a shame their going to duplicate the AR kits version, contract 1 was the most numerous (100) hoppers and the one that needs to be done.Oh well better than none i guess.

Re ALY pack 6, can anyone provide the history on the maroon painted ALY?

Thanks in advance.

I enjoy the banter that comes with the announcement of a new RTR model - I always learn something. Usually it's the little details that differentiate wagon types within the same code, like this thread recently. Thanks to those posting knowledge stuff here, it's informative.

On that topic, this picture from Rob O'Regan shows an original contract PRX at Blacktown in 1979 without the hole at the bottom of the central join on the tank. Dare I say it, AR Kits could be on the money in not including the hole *release cat unto pigeons*

While we're pretty lucky to have such variety considering the size of the market, I'm happy to add a KRM brass walkway mesh and additional detail to the existing AR Kits variant. Pretty much following Blair Koistra's example here

Anyway, to each his own. Happy Modelling!

Cheers,
Ben

Good news just announced, all 3 series of the PRY and related models will be produced. A new blog update is being prepared now, it's already "sort of" online but had a few glitches during the upload so check in a few hours and hopefully all will be well.

I assume the bargain is the free stanchions with the purchase of U sets.

I do not consider any thing else a bargain announced on the latest blog. Yes we have lots of art work, but any one can put a few pictures up. I find it interesting, that the new tank car art work follows what SDS have already advertised on their web page ages ago. My advice to those interested is to check out the SDS tank car offerings (and prices) before committing to these promised tank cars with coarse scale width wheels.

Now before anyone thinks of replying to that last post, take a deep breath, go bang your head against the wall several times and then just ignore it.

I could be wrong but this looks to be a first:
Southern Rail have some specials running at this weekend's Ipswich Show, and for those that can't make it (probably most of us) they've invited people to give Rocket a call.
(This from their Faceplant page).
https://www.facebook.com/southernrailmodels

The specials are:
NDHF $195 per pack
ALY:- Buy 3 packs for $495 save $56.00
VAK & VGK Weathered Packs $235 per pack

I won't put the phone number up here, its visible on the FB page, and also on their website.

Kind regards,

Toby

Auscision noted on 24/8 they also accept phone-ins for exhibition specials. A few rowdy people were upset they thought they couldn't get a discounted T class. Others have noted similar arrangements too for exhibition specials.

Another recent initiative by some traders (Southern Rail included) has been 'spot specials' advertised on facebook during an exhibition, with the first person turning up and saying "I saw this offer on facebook...." getting a nice discount on the item in question.
