Went past UGL at Broadmeadow today and saw a partly-built unpainted loco that looks very similar to the QRN 5020's and the X-Rail XRN's. My hunch is that it's one of the 7 for 'that other coal company'.

There are 6 locos on order for QRN in the west for iron ore trains. I would make a guess and say its one of these.

At the moment UGL have orders for

QRN AC 4401-06
QRN 6013-16
Xstrata XRN 011-020
CFCL CF 4401-4404
GWA GWA 201- 209
Centennial CEY 001-007

These will all look the same in grey undercoat.
I have seen a recent photo of XRN012 on this site, so it might be one of those.

But they usually have the illuminated numbers fitted, so if you pull over to the grass verge and check you could read the number.

About a week ago there was 2 out the side in undercoat, both had XRN in the number boxes, but I did not see the numbers due to traffic.

XRN 013 painted and XRN 015 in undercoat were out on the Griffith Rd side of UGL Broadmeadow on 3/8/2011. Each one was inside it's own temporary fenced area being tested.

So we can assume that the extra Xstrata units are currently being built.

I believe the QRN AC class are to follow those.

I don't know in what order any further units will be built.

I note that XRN013, 014 and 015 have their builder's plates fitted...

Any close-ups that show the builder's numbers?

Very many thanks for that...

It has however spoiled my day to some extent...

That means that the QR National AC class have lower builder's numbers than the Xstrata XRNs, so I've had to edit the list I'm trying to put together....

Note the decal reading "Loco Mass 180 tonnes" here on XRN015...

The builder's plate says 139.2 tonnes.

Did any of these enter traffic with that decal, and did they get to Gunnedah?

Morning all. Does anyone know if UGL at Broadmeadow leave the new units outside in the front yard on Saturday afternoon please? I might go up for a long lens look through the fence later.

Good evening all. Seen at Goninan's Broadmeadow today:-

XRNs 019, 018, 016, 017 above.

XRNs 015, 017 above.

Something not so new above. Also QRN 5009 was there looking quite clean but faded original paint. However, no CEY or whatever class units outside, and all the shed doors were shut. Might get back for a peek on Monday.

The following message, attributed to Brad Coulter, was forwarded to me...

"Hi All
The 1st of the long waited CFCLA owned new build C44aci's being built by UGR Goninan, Was noted in the yard in Undercoat on 19/10/2011 in undercoat with the number of CF4401 in the number boxes.
Brad"

This might suggest that the new unidentified units are in fact CFCLA locomotives and not Centennial Coal units. The CFCLA order was originally placed a long time ago but other units were built earlier.

Good afternoon all. CF4401 at Goninan Broadmeadow today. The side handrails are temporary workshop fittings. One interesting thing is that the ditch light boxes are pre painted yellow. They are in an area not normally yellow in CFCLAs paint scheme. The small decal under the radiators at the back states that it's CFCLAs radiator cab #1.

What he said.

A most unusual shade of green, too. Where will these be operating please?

Surely more than some sort of coincidence that livery is all but a dead ringer for SSR ( green for black )

curious

sort of like SSR style meets Freigthliner colours
