    A lot is happening at SGR with 32 and 40 ABU going through restoration and infastructure getting constructed.

    Just to clear up a couple of things that azza_190 did not mention
    More then 280 sleepers have been changed over and drilled and spiked between Korumburra - Leongatha in the last couple of months.

    On this road number 5 there was around 50 sleepers changed. And for the first time in around 30 year's on September 1, 2011 this bit a track was used once again.

    SGR has no screw-coupled stock, how the ABU's are now have to stay like that

    They were at some point. The last time they were used was during ~2003 when Elecrail ran two 'E train' tours (the two ABU's hauled by 107M-137M), the first to Frankston, then another a few months later to Lilydale-Essendon-Dandenong.

    Pretty sure these cars are/were fitted with dual couplings. 470ZD was also used.

    The cars are fitted with an auto at one end and a screw coupler at the other. To make things simple, all you need to do is just leave them coupled together with the screw coupler in the middle and the auto at the outer ends.

    Been up at SGR since tuesday and made some good progress on 32ABU, all old canvas is removed and top part of roof has been all sanded and ready for new canvas. 40ABU has 50% of canvas removed and will be start to be worked on again sometime next week.
    Once the ABU cars are in service the ABW will be repainted and then we will decide whether ZF24 or CW17 will be restored.
    36BE will be a long term restoration project.
    RM55 will be getting restored once it is put on transfer bogies for new tyres.

    I believe a normal VR wood sleeper is meant to be 10" wide, 5" thick, 9ft long.

    Well, it is broad gauge, so they'd be wider than NSW sleepers.

    I'm referencing Tom Yates's book, "What a Journey". He worked in the VR over a plethora of roles from 1948 to 1987.

    From memory, the sleeper preference was Gippsland grey box, then yellow gum, and third preference was redgum for sleeper material.

    The above is quite correct with narrow gauge being the same other than their length which is 5'6".

    Remember 5'3" the gauge for me, 4’81/2” don’t make me laugh.

    This Coming Saturday 26th, there is a lift happening with 4 pieces of rollingstock getting lifted. ABW 63 is getting its steamrail bogie fitted back under. A louvre van is getting lifted to be used for storage, another louvre van is getting its transfer bogies taken off and is getting put on the bogies off the other van. RM55 is getting put on the transfer bogies and going to be in restoration till its drive bogie comes back after getting new tires. So if your not busy its happening this saturday at the korumburra freight gate. Early start im pretty sure of.

    Also someone I know I doing the driver experience on Saturday using Y135 and a mixed train, it's a good opportunity to get photos and videos of a mixed train!

    Arrived down at Korumburra this afternoon.
    Okay the lift isn't happening till Sunday Morning now.
    I try and get down to Nyora and get photo's of the track that is hanging in the air after the water took all the dirt and rock from under it.

    SUCCESS Very Happy ABW63 was first to go up and the YVR Bogie came out and Steamrail Bogie went back under and the carriage looks heaps better with no lean, two louvre vans went up and one is now a storage shed and the other will be restored due to good bodywork, then RM55 went up and we found when the trailing bogie came out that the transfer bogie was too low and made 55 look like she had been lowered a lot Razz RM55 Rail Sport I called it. We thought about what to do and had a plan to use two old C Van bogies these were perfect and were used and now the Moter bogie is heading off to Newport in the future.

    Okay after two members from SGR went to a meeting with other people about the damaged track at Nyora we have been told the Loch-Nyora part of The line could be closed up to another 6 months.
