Valvegear
Valvegear has it with Briagalong.  This station was closed in 1952

Once used by trains, this location is now used occasionally for a more modern mode of transport.

Port Welshpool (Welshpool Jetty on VR Maps ) ?

Not Port Welshpool - remember - the mode of transport is more modern than rail, which I reckon makes it more modern than shipping too.

The more modern transport is only there in emergencies.

I'm going to take a stab and say Millgrove, as the fire station there is on or very close to what was the Millgrove railway station site, and is at least sitting on the old r.o.w.

Whether or not fire trucks qualify as a more modern form of transport is up for some debate I guess Smile

Good thinking, but it's not Millgrove. You need to go a lot further east, and the modern transport is aerial.

Assuming you are referring to the Royal Flying Doctor Service, I'm going to say Maffra.

Not the RFDS and not Maffra.

Go further east to a station where the last train passed in 1987.

Ah yep...I got it Now(a) Nowa!

Well done - it is indeed Nowa Nowa - used these days as a helicopter landing pad.

Over to raudteejam.
  raudteejaam Junior Train Controller

Beauty. I was racking my brains trying to think of airfields built on old railway station sites or easements- but was coming up blank. Then remembered Nowa Nowa had the chopper pad!

New Clue:

This site once saw both passenger and good services, but it would be impossible for services to return without a substantially new alignment.

The alignment at this station is (reasonably) intact, but at some point between here and the junction on the main line it has been obliterated.

I believe that the Mirboo North line has has been obliterated by coal mine extensions near Morwell.
