It was staff ticket Longwood-Benalla-Wangaratta when the branch to St James and Yarrawonga opened.  Let's try Benalla A Box.

You are quite correct duttonbay, it was staff and ticket between the fore mention stations once , but unfortunately you have hopped into the Tardis and travelled back in time way too many centuries. Press the button that says "Travel back 30 years from today"  to find a signal box that operated 3 lines by Staff and Ticket (One of the lines was OTS ,meaning, One Engine in Steam  or no tickets to be issued).

I also had a standard gauge passenger platform and a broad gauge passenger platform both were open for business.           The station  is still operating.  We both had the same name except the signal box had any extra letter after its name.

I can't help thinking it's Wangaratta, but I can't find the extra letter.

You've got me beaten. 30 years ago predates the western SG, meaning it's only the North-East. Outside Metro Melbourne there's only platforms at Seymour, Benalla and Wangaratta. No staff and ticket at Seymour or Wangaratta (which was not a junction) and you've ruled out Benalla.

I shall sit back and watch with interest, and see what I have missed...

You are not beaten yet my friend ,for when I read your reply i saw to my horror that my fat finger had pressed a 3 not a 2 so the so the sentence must read 20 years ago.  Don't look at the North East standard gauge .

It is not Wangaratta or Benalla B Box

back in the game....

Has Ararat A Box been guessed? Not certain about three staff and ticket sections though.
