Where am I Victoria? - Non Cryptic - #3

OK, I'll try with Strzelecki (though I think that is more of a Polish name).

Strzelecki is Polish and not correct.

Further clue:

I was not a terminus, but I served the largest settlement on my line.

Nathalia?

Absolutely correct, Hansie13.  The answer is Nathalia on the Picola line.

Nathalia was a 17th century czarina of Russia.

Your turn.

Thank you Faredodger. My strategy of throwing darts at a map of Victoria eventually paid off!

I am a station on a closed line.

I share a name with a station on a closed line in New South Wales.

Westby?
  Hansie13 Locomotive Fireman

Straight back to you Faredodger; I obviously made that question too easy. Well done.

As an observation, surely the Stony Crossing and Westby branches were two of the most ill-fated across those two networks.

Yes, they probably were.

New teaser:

I am a closed station on a still open line.

I was the site of a robbery in 1897 and a crash rather more recently.

Neither Trawalla nor Elphinstone.
  duttonbay Minister for Railways

Glenrowan seems like a passably good choice, even if only to take it off the list.

A very passably good choice, duttonbay, and it certainly takes it off the list.  Unfortunately, it doesn't get you the gong.

Certainly it had a very well-known passenger at one time, who was responsible for a few robberies and came close to causing a derailment; but that never happened because of the action of a local schoolteacher.  I don't know of an actual robbery at Glenrowan station.

(Incidentally, my great-grandfather, who lived on a property in the area, spoke to Ned on the platform as he was lying on a stretcher waiting to be taken to Melbourne by train; and Ned said to him, "Davy, never tangle with the law, because you'll never win" or words to that effect.)

Fairley station site, where the highway crosses the Swan Hill line. In 2007 semi trailer collides with passenger train.

I recall that one.  A Fairley good guess, but not correct.

I'll rumble in with Irymple.

Barnawatha?

Neither Irymple nor Barnawatha.

Note that I am on a line that still has a regular passenger service.

None of the guesses so far has been on the right line.

Not Lismore, but you're in the right quarter of the state.

Larpent?

Gnarkeet....

Location: Hiding anywhere the ticket inspectors can't see me
Sorry, David, it isn't Gnarkeet.

But Larpent is the correct answer.

There was a robbery there in 1897 and a collision between a VLine passenger train and a semi-trailer in 2016.

Over to you, Hansie13.
  Hansie13 Locomotive Fireman

Cheers Faredodger.

I am a station on an open line.

I was, but am no longer, a junction station.

Let's throw a dart at a map.  I'll say Traralgon to open proceedings..
