on openrails when i am in the loop i get red lights
X'Trapolis-904M

This is one of the known signaling problems. On all the signals I made custom shape files for, only the bottom light works. The top light looks like it's burnt out. Functionally they work just fine though, so look at the track monitor to see the aspects.

Another known fault is colour light home signals showing green over green for all clear, which is not a valid Victorian signaling aspect.

Unfortunately at this stage I don't know enough about signal scripts to correct these problems.

A couple of updates for tonight:

The public beta has now been updated to a later version, with a number of fixes. Changes from the previous version include:
*Minor signaling adjustments to make activities work better
*Minor scenery adjustments
*More carspawners
*Station names now show correctly
*More siding markers for easier activity creation

{edit} You can now download the latest version from Railpage as well: http://www.railpage.com.au/downloads/744/get/

You can download the latest version from the RailVic download area.

If you have a previous version of the Epping line, be sure to overwrite all files when instaling this version.

A patch is coming soon that will patch Public Beta 1 to Public Beta 2 for a smaller download size.

The second update for tonight is a patch for Epping line public beta 2 that makes the city circle loop entrance operational. If you install this patch, you will be able to use the city circle loop entrance and be able to drive a train all the way around the city circle. Due to an MSTS limitation with tracks that form a continuous loop, this patch is compatible with openrails ONLY. If you attempt to use a version of the route that has been patched in MSTS it will cause a crash.

{edit} You can now download the City Circle Loop patch from Railpage: http://www.railpage.com.au/downloads/745/get/

You can get the City Circle Loop patch in the RailVic download area as well.

I cannot get the patches, railvictoria comes back with an error saying login name does not exist. This is strange as I downloaded the main route from there.

I cannot download the route either.

Can we please ask someone to upload it to the Railpage system and I will approve.  Michael are you able to fix the code issue for the CR/LF for downloaded files?

A couple of things about hosting and beta versions that might explain the decision logic.
I think a few people here are missing the point of a public beta. A public beta is not a finished product, it is a version with known, and unknown faults that the public can test and give feedback on. These faults are then progressively corrected with updates until the final polished and (hopefully) working product is finished. This is good method for a big project like this one being worked on by only one or two people with limited time. It means the public gets to try it out a lot sooner than they would otherwise, and we get to spend more of our valuble time modelling new content rather than testing.

Because of the need to make frequent updates as faults are identified, it is helpful to host somewhere I have direct control over. As it stands for Railpage I have to PM an admin to get previous versions taken down, something that can get understandably annoying for both parties if I have to change something suddenly. Hence the original plan to host the evolving beta versions on RailVictoria or file sharing services until the worst of the testing process is over. Then a final, nicely packaged version in a self extracting instaler can be uploaded to Railpage.

So that's why we did it this way, even though it is evidently unpopular with some people. I probably should have written a bigger disclaimer earlier about what "beta" means.

Like I said earlier, if this process seems like too much trouble (or you don't like the idea of using a product with known faults) you are most welcome to wait until the nicely packaged final product is released whenever that may be.

Also I've been told by the RailVictoria admin that the problem that was preventing some people downloading earlier has now been corrected.

Who is rail Victoria ? Never heard I them.

The idea of beta testing goes back to the days of engineering of software and other devices. (Looked it up)

There are plenty of people who I am sure would welcome the prospect of beta testing. The problem was the railvic site.

There are many admins here who can do the work with the files I am sure. Moderators too perhaps ?

How often will you do a release ?

Rail Victoria is a Victorian railfan website run by a couple of younger rail enthusiasts who have offered to host the Epping line. They also have a number of MSTS projects of their own in progress.

I've been trying to release updates every 1-2 weeks or as soon as major problems get fixed. I work full time during the week, so it usually has to wait until the weekend.

The version hosted here at Railpage has now been updated (thanks Brian), you can download it here:

The city circle openrails patch is now online as well:
