    Anyone know why the 12:40pm Mt Victoria service started at Penrith?
    There was a V set in the yard, came into platform 2 then all to Mt Victoria

    Can anyone confirm the usual number of locos used for the PN coal down the mountains?
    I'm sure 8243 was running light engine with a sister unit through penrith towards emu plains, then came through around 15 mins later at the head of a coal with 4 locos.
    Or i could be mistaken on the loco running light!

    With the chaos on the western line today, there was some added stress for some commuters at blacktown where the ticket barriers were showing majority of peoples tickets as not valid, including mine, and some tickets getting eaten by the barriers.
    Is this caused by the barriers age? Or is this something that can happen on occasion?

    4 82s is the norm... or occasionally 3 of the newer SSR Locos.

    Whilst PN western coal trains may not be confined to the cityrail network for 100% of their journey, bjwh86 was asking based on an observation made in Penrith, which is located wholly within the aforementioned network Smile

    And yes, it did occour to me that this may not be the absolutely most correct thread to raise the question, but I answered in kind and in good faith. SO his chanced were just as good here as anywhere else! Smile

    And wurx, that was not my intention to have this thread about cityrail TRAINS, but observations within the Cityrail network, regardless of operator, when I started this thread.

    I heard about the new style trains. DO NOT LIKE IT! Most commuters travel longer distances and I wouldn't want to stand for such a long time. In Singapore, there are no seats, not even for the elderly. The carriage is fitted out with just poles to hold on to. People there mainly commute shorter distances, or commute for shorter times.


    And yes, many people will tell me get a life.  I have a life, but when I commute, I would prefer to sit down.

    When I went to Singapore, on three train trips in total, the carriage was completely unfitted. maybe it was just that line. From Bishan to Orchard, From Ang mo kio to Braddel and from Braddel to Ang mo kio. Yes, I have seen only cars with seats but they were pretty rare.

    In Singapore they most definitely do have seats on the metro... all the ones I took (Changi Airport - Tanah Merah - City Hall - Marina Bay - Bayfront) all had the seats across - and they weren't necessarily super short trips either.

    As for the seats themselves - like. More standing space is always a plus and saves us time squeezing in/out of aisles at busy city stations. Going back to Singapore again, their disembarkation time was many times shorter than ours because of easier access in/out of the doors.

    Though I am curious/wondering how the horizontal seats are secured to the carriage.

    I noticed yesterday on the train to Penrith Friday that Springwood station is apparently being resigned and rebranded. There's new signage along with a few other things. From the side of the train I was on all the signage points to Bathurst as the final destination. I didn't notice if electronic destos where in place as yet but I can't imagine them being all that far away.

    Delays on the Western Line. Landslip/slide at Harris Park

    This is from the CityRail website:

    Customers on the Western line should allow extra travel time due to a landslip caused by heavy rainfall at Harris Park. Trains will proceed safely through the affected area without stopping at Harris Park. A replacement bus service has been arranged between Parramatta and Granville in both directions. Delays can be expected. Engineers and repair crews are assessing damage to infrastructure. At this stage there is no forecast as to when train services can be restored. We will provide more information as it becomes available.

    Let's not let the facts get in the way of a news story.

    Platforms 3 and 4 at Harris Park closed, no passengers so not much chance of people getting in the way of the landslide.

    Newsreader: "..if it had been a busier time".  Busy at Harris Park on a Sunday afternoon. Yeah, right.

    Was on Waratah Set A45 tonight leaving Lidcombe on the Campelltown via Granville Service (21:50ish), it has new Sydney Trains stickers and the sides of the end cabs are in orange vinyl.

    Something very interesting happened, we had to wait for 5minutes due to them waiting for a new driver/crew member swap and when we were going the driver and guard were in the same cab! (Leading cab) with the blue light illuminated which was a strange sight, one of the Railcorp employees (in CityRail uniform) was also amazed when he alighted to see the female guard standing!

    Attached is a photo when I got off at Canley Vale, about to alert the driver that the blue indicator light was on but to my amazement the sight of a guard!
