Is anyone aware of a same-day transfer from the Indian Pacific up to Kalbarri or thereabouts? It's for an elderly family member whom can't travel by air due to an ear issue and whom I don't want staying overnight in Perth alone. Unfortunately I don't have to time to travel with her any time soon.

The Indian Pacific arrives into East Perth at 9:10am Tue&Sat. The only same-day coach transfer I could find was TransWA to Geraldton, leaving at 9:30am(hardly enough time to transfer considering GSR punctuality). In the reverse direction I haven't been able to find anything to arrive at East Perth prior to the train's departure at 11:55am Wed&Sun.

Any help appreciated.

Perth visitor info wasn't able to help and TransWA said they wouldn't wait for a late train....

On a side note does anyone have any punctuality data(accurate or heresay) on arrivals at East Perth?...It's a shame that GSR don't advertise this(that I can find)

I think Greyhound go every day, also I think Integrity coach lines are going to be reinstating their bus service up north, not sure if there started yet though.

It looks like your family member's only option for a bus trip from Perth to Kalbarri is Transwa.  Kalbarri is mentioned on Greyhound's website, but not in its timetable.

Geraldton is quite a long way short of Kalbarri.  The Transwa N1 service no 879 Perth to Kalbarri operates only on Mon, Wed and Fri, so it looks like an overnight stay in Perth (or Geraldton) is unavoidable.  However, I would suggest Perth, because then there's plenty of layover time, even if the IP arrives late. (There's a similar problem for the return trip on service no 860.)

If your family member is concerned about security and can't afford a taxi, I would suggest you make enquiries about whether any of Perth's airport shuttle services will agree to transport her from Perth Terminal to a hotel and back the following morning, but even if they are, it may not be very much cheaper, if at all.

There's also a suburban railway station at Perth Terminal with connections to the rest of the suburban network, but you need to be fit enough to walk over the pedestrian bridge across the lines to get to it.

I know that this isn't very helpful, but long distance bus transport is pretty thin on the ground here in WA.

Getting accommodation at a hotel here in Perth for a night is also expensive and hard to find.

Even if the elderly passenger was willing to fly the short hop to Kalbarri, Skippers only fly Saturday to Monday!!

I think you've got the wrong state capital city! The nearest rail station is Ashfield and unless you planning to swim across the swan river then it is 5.4 km away!

I think you have the wrong Perth Terminal.

I guess you are thinking Perth Airport Terminal. The OP mentions that the elderly passenger cannot fly.

Perth Terminal is the terminus of the Indian Pacific and Prospector trains. There is a suburban station adjacent with a walk bridge between them.
