What a waste of money!

I thought you didn't like open bridges that didn't protect people from any of the elements. To get a covered bridge you need to spend money!

The old bridge would have needed to go anyway, it didn't meet any accessibility standards of any kind.

Steam4ian, please do not show your bias toward your Liberal Party views. It only comes across as either sour grapes or gross ignorance. The only reason you say it is a waste is to reflect your patron saint, Tony Abbott. The bridge "access" was a legal suit waiting to happen against the Government from a breach of the Disability Discrimination Act. Now that would be a perfect waste of money.

Oh please, its the station for the showgrounds, it needed a unique and unusual design of bridge. I would have chosen something that suited the show itself, like a 3d collage of animals and showrides, but hey design is personal taste as well.

It's Australian steel, and Australian fabricators that welded it together, I'm not seeing it as a waste when it employs locals. Besides which, aren't you the swine that designed some of these god awful mesh stations, now those were a waste of money.

Yes I am a consultant which gives me a unique qualification to know how consultants/architects can make jobs more complex in order to boost their fee recovery and to show off their skills. I know all the tricks BUT personally I try NOT TO USE them but rather expose them. I can point to a major Adelaide project where security of service delivery has been compromised to spend money on facades and decoration.

I am not defending the old pedestrian bridge except to say it was a very efficient design even if now no longer DDA compliant.
My point is that the tracks could have been crossed and lift access provided with weather cover and suicide protection for much less steel.

That the money was "wasted" in Adelaide is not really a good reason for making the design more complex.

A big fan of the expenditure around the Adelaide Oval? Theming a bridge in a design only relevant to the area for ten days per year is a newie.
