Rather than try browsing without asking, is this app still publically available, and would it work on WindowsXP if it was?
normw
RP is public so the DVA software is also public. I run XP and last time I tried Jonathon's DVA it worked. A great job JB - keep up the good work!

If the author isn't already doing this for a living, he could.

Link in first post updated with newest version (5.2.8).

Files are now hosted in windows azure cloud so if you are using 5.2.7 (which does not know how to talk to windows azure) you will not get the update notification until I return home around 29th Dec and restart my server at home. You can instead update manually just by installing 5.2.8 on top of 5.2.7 or any previous version.

Awesome work with this app, I never knew this existed.

A few questions.

Any plans to add the new Sydney Trains PID theme that was released recently?

Any plans to update the timetable to more current ones? Perhaps even pull the most recent timetable every time.

You mentioned a while back that you could easily put in information about delays, afaik Sydney trains provide an api for this so that apps such as tripview can display delays. Any plans for this?

Thanks

That would be GTFS Realtime, which isn't public at the moment.

Soooo that would be a no.

1. I'd like to but don't have any good photos of it, nor does Google seem to. If anyone can get a good close-up of the new theme I can have a go at building it into the app

2. Certainly possible. At the moment its an old timetable from maybe a year ago. I have a tool to pull the current timetable from the Cityrail website, should be fairly simple to integrate it.

3. The link to the NSW Transport developer site looks interesting. I'm planning on signing up for an account to check it out.

Hello,
I'm new to this forum type stuff so forgive me if I make a mistake.

I have had DVA5 for a year now and enjoy it alot, so I thought I better contribute to make it better.
I have taken some images of the new station indicators to help you with your project.

Here is a link to the images on Dropbox.

By the way, the screens oriented portrait can have 11 lines of station names.

I am just a user, not the author, but I find that downloading from the links given in this thread seems to deliver the latest version, and that the new version can be installed over the old without needing to uninstall it first. It's friendly software.

I've downloaded DVA 5 and had a look at the java source code, It's really impressive. Would you be interested in creating a Github to allow for easy contributions and issue requests/fixes?

Very helpful. Now just need to work out what font is used on the indicators - I don't recognise it.

Github repository is online here: https://github.com/jaboles/DVA5
I've never used Github before, let me know if you run into any issues e.g. permissions errors navigating the project. It's created as a public project, which I believe means anyone can file issues/pull requests and so on.

Right now it will build only on my machine. Lol. Even if you have a Mac, trying to build it yourself right now will fail for not being able to find the sound files (I have not put them in the repo for copyright reasons). It will also fail building Windows setups (it uses Inno Setup running under WINE on my machine). I may investigate getting it buildable on other machines at some point.

I can't open it for some reason on MAC. There might be a problem. I tried opening the software whenever I click it, it stops opening and acts like if I just closed it. Please fix this bug!!

Perhaps you could try a nicer tone, other than please fix !  It might be helpful to outline your system, model OS version as well, to help others help you.

Cheers David; I'll field this one.

@GamerConfuzed: Firstly, lose the tone, and secondly, stop blaming the software.

DVA is a built with Java, therefore, you need to have Java installed on your Mac.

I have multiple Mac computers (all of which are running macOS Sierra); and to get DVA to run, I had to install the Java Development Kit

Which I can near guarantee you don't have on your system. Download it, install it, reboot, then try running DVA again.

TL;DR: There is an issue: You. In industry, we call this PEBKAC.

Hey buddy, What version of MAC OS do you have installed? Do you have Java installed as well? You need Java Runtime Environment installed (full Development Kit is not necessary).

Reason I said that is that is the only way I can get it to work. It's no secret that Java sucks! Razz
