Does the government have any plans as to HOW both lines will be converted? Frequency levels, new underground tracks or existing platform and tracks, which route the metro will take etc. ??

In short:

It would operate on existing track, initial operation patter of 6tph each from Cabramatta and Lidcombe, combining to 12tph from Birrong to Marrickville, 8tph from Hurstville combining to 20tph from Sydenham to CBD rail link.

Eventually a Northern Beaches line would be build, as well as a connection and extra platforms at Wolli creek for the Revesby locals, with 8tph running from Revesby and 10tph from Hurstville combining with the 12tph on the Bankstown line to be 30tph through the CBD.

DD trains have significantly longer dwell times, compared to SD trains, you can run SD trains more frequently than DD trains, thereby increasing line capacity, both in terms of number of trains run as well as the number of passengers you can carry.

You say that like it's a sure thing. I'd be interested in your source? I'd be more inclined to suggest that they will be retired.

Can the Bankstown and Hurstville lines be converted from DD to Metro operation "overnight" ?

Can these lines be:

* fitted with trainstops and ATO at the same time? Like London Jubilee Line.

* does the overhead stay at 1500VDC with the overhead at the same height? Do the Metro pantographs handle both existing and future Metro only OHW heights (if different) ?

* do the platforms have no need to be cutback or widened (or raised or lowered) to suit differences in the height and width of the Metro trains ?

* do the platforms need to be extended for longer than 8-car Metro trains ? (A problem at Belmore and Sydenham)

Otherwise, do these lines have to be closed down for say 12 months to perform the conversion. Like Adelaide 25kV.

Can DD and Metro continue to share any lightly used lines ? This enables rolling stock on the common line(s) to be borrowed for use on the Metro in times of heavy traffic, something that is impossible and wasteful with Total Breaks Of Gauge.

I'm concerned with the lack of planning made to change, modify and build onto the existing line for conversion to SD metro trains. This plan has yet come to reality, and in my opinion, it provides little improvements to these existing lines and it's a waste of money and time.
