Aurizon Coal Train Derailed at Coppabella

  2115A Locomotive Driver

There was a big derailment of a empty coal train on the hill , Coppabella - Broadlea section today. Sounds like the first remote locomotive is on it's side and 20 or more wagons are piled up.
It has been very hot today and a track buckle may be the cause.

If its anything like the derailment a couple of years ago between Raglan and Ambrose, photos were a big no no. If its not publically accessible, then they will probably be hard to come by.

This derailment was in Coppabella yard itself, and was from a loaded train rear-ending loaded wagons left in the holding roads.

This most recent derailment was on Coppabella-Broadlea section.  Heard talk of broken rail, but will be interesting to find out exact cause.  I have seen one photo on facebook.  Doesn't show much more than a few derailed wagons.

Here you go, it finally made the media. But what a hopeless report on the incident. Driverless train???? How about the reporter get the facts straight, before putting it out to the public. Oh, that's right, lets not let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Pfft, can't expect much from the media these days. Anyone with a brain knows that.

I'm not sure why this one has suddenly hit the headlines, coalies and incidents happen all the time. My father was out in the coal fields or on the Mt Isa line doing investigations almost every week before he left QRN/AUZ.
