a very good decision.International news had become a nightmare , a copy and paste frenzy and it was not uncommon to find the same article of news repeated over again under different headings. That guy needs a bit of help.My interest in international news is mainly with france and spain happenings and Google does the job for me

Long overdue in my opinion.

......

Well done to the RP team for finally taking some initiative on the problem, and dealing with it in a timely manner.

As one of the avid kiwis on here, I actually found the Oceania forum gave me more info then I was able to dredge up from other kiwi sites.  Were the articles there from the person you allude to?  If they were I actually found them very useful.

Will you bring back the Kiwi/Oceania connection?

If there are enough threads to warrant a forum for each major geographical area, sure Smile

it would be nice to encourage posters who have had the opportunity to travel overseas, or indeed - those based overseas, to contribute trip reports with appropriate links to photos, etc.

As for those that had already been contributed, will they be made accessible?

From my OP :

With that in mind the old international forums have been archived off and, time permitting, some of the resources locked away in there will be exposed in news articles or in the case of discussion threads, moved into here.

A long really good stuff and reading is missing. Singapore and South east Asia discussions on high speed rail and Cambodia.

Well have a word with your old mate who clogged up the forums with rubbish.

Didn't have any of these problems when tony mercury was posting, but it was obvious he thought 'why bother' when old mate thought he had a god given right to take over.

Does not negate the fact there was some great reading in there. At least being back the New Zealand forum.

This 'International Forum' just isn't working.

I liked to trawl through the North America forum to read all aspects of that continents transport; now there's nothing.

Perhaps there's an equivalent of "Railpage North America" out there where you can get your fix? Wink

I'm amazed that the admins allowed the spammer to go on for as long as he did, as he made the foreign forums utterly dysfunctional. Every night he posted up to 100 "cut and paste" things, but not a single original comment. Anyone who wanted to contribute to foreign forums had their post flooded with cut and paste spams. He even made it hard to use the "New forum posts" function for Australian posts as those spams constituted more posts than everyone else put together.

So yes, I'm very pleased they are gone. But anyone who was so obsessive to make so many posts every night obviously had a serious problem. Sad I hope that he is getting some help to overcome his difficulties.

Still believe Railpage is unique globally. There just isn't this information on one site like here.

There no no American Railpage. I have looked.

No No No...WAY too much information. I won't live long enough to trawl through all that.

Looks like I'll just have to go into AMTRAK and read their press releases.

Disappointed.

As I said: If enough discussion is generated to warrant an NZ forum one will be made. That's your (the userbase's) job.

I'd love to see an NZ forum, I am becoming a regular visit to the land of the long white cloud across the ditch, and liked being able to keep up with the happening over there.

Create some threads, have a discussion and generate some interest and I'll create an NZ forum.
