    Railpage has acquired a site at Albion next to the railway line. A camera installation is planned but very little work has been completed thus far. A radio link from the site looks possible but is yet to be tested.

    although i am far from an expert installing and running this camera will be hard from that side of the tracks.  how are you going to prevent the camera from recording metro services which will pass through?

    Successful radio testing was completed yesterday into the Albion site.  The site will be added to the Melbourne Wireless Network sometime over the next week.

    @bevans will this new setup cover trains which do not enter the Melbourne yards?  is this the idea?

    The idea was to get the SG trains on camera the camera is kinda dud now so don't expect to see the camera anytime soon

    Correct.  This is definitely the idea. This camera will cover all SG trains to and from the Albion area.  It will also handle BG freight but we will need to take the sparks out of the feed if we go to far.

    The camera equipment has been purchased as has the radio and routing equipment.  Two cameras will be installed.  One will be a new model PTZ which I have been testing.  This will allow us to send images to the RP network from different angles.

    I am excited about this project as it encompasses much of what we have already learnt but also some new features.

    The Albion project sounds like an advancement on bunbury street. What will the new ptz do ?

    I can see how this new setup can cover through services but how many of these are left running via Melbourne ?

    I personally believe there is enough coverage in Melbourne. Are there plans for Sydney and Adelaide. I know this must be expensive to install and maintain but I am sure we could contribute to the cost.

    I would like to see bunbury upgrades to a better quality camera as the image has become quite dull as pointed out by @8077.

    Somewhere on the northeast up this way or better make it southern NSW.

    I will leave the issue of traffic to @Michelle12 but the cameras themselves are a combination of the existing HD at Gheringhap and also the new PTZ = Pan, Tilt, Zoom meaning you can move the camera around remotely.

    This will be the first PTZ on the Railpage Network.

    sounds encouraging. Should we assume the images will arrive in the same system as the bunbury images ?

    Will a live feed be available ?

    Can anyone control the cameras ?

    Why do you say that? Has the project been shelved?

    Can someone also advise who is the team lead on the railcams?  I would like to ask some questions and talk to them about camera tuning.

    The Albion Site is now almost ready.  A pole is  being installed on the North East corner of the building but on a place much higher than the original test images.

    Brian does not have a full time job running Railpage. Brian has to seek the authorisation for the pole.  People aren't always easy to pin down. People want to know what it is I am doing. people want to know what power it will use and how much it will cost.

    cameras cost money. real people need to be paid to weld and install poles.  No change out of $1000 for albion.

    Perhaps you should take on the role yourself, given you've already self-appointed yourself the head of the railcam project.

    Brian goes to great effort and expense to operate this website day in day out for all of us freeloaders, show some damned respect. I'm getting sick of these "gimme" attitudes displayed by the members, be it due to a lack of respect for the expense, effort or courtesy of the staff here. I'd rather see certain bad members just leave, but instead they continue to remain, leeching the efforts of a few and complaining about it all the while.
