Welcome to Trump town

The Republican-run Senate has  rejected US President Donald Trump’s declaration of a national emergency at the southwest border, setting up a veto fight and dealing him a conspicuous rebuke as he tested how boldly he could ignore Congress in pursuit of his highest-profile goal. The Senate voted 59-41 to cancel Trump’s February proclamation of a border emergency, which he invoked to spend $USD3.6 billion more for border barriers than Congress had approved. Twelve Republicans joined Democrats in defying Trump in a showdown many GOP senators had hoped to avoid because he commands die-hard loyalty from millions of conservative voters who could punish defecting legislators in next year’s elections.

Poor old Donald; he still can't get used to the idea that he's not running his own business, and can't do exactly as he likes.

Only to be bettered by,

"Oh my God. This is terrible. This is the end of my presidency. I’m f---ed... This is the worst thing that has ever happened to me."

Now if you're speeding and saw a police car a reaction of "I’m f---ed" would be expected, not if you weren't.

Hello All,

until today, there has not been a post on this subject for a while, so clearly most of us have given up on being surprised by anything stupid that Trump twits.

( No disrespect is intended to the current posters. )

As Theresa May has announced her resignation , one could argue that even she has decided Trump's twits and advice need to be avoided !

I personally think that the desire of some Democrats to impeach Trump are barking up the wrong tree, and could well have an opposite result to their intention, as Trump could twit on about his opponents being jealous or whatever .

In my view it would be far better to keep arguing for, and concentrate on arguing a sensible response . By doing so, more Congressional Republican Reps and Senators will eventually vote Trump down. It is counter productive to try for impeachment now.

Impeachment would be premature but I have little faith in the political integrity of the Republicans. Values are secondary to holding power.

Financier Jeffrey Epstein has been arrested in the US on a whole raft of criminal charges involving the alleged abuse of young women.  He's a good friend of Trump and Bill Clinton....

And how creepy is this New York Magazine article from 2002?  Both sides of US politics look shady as:

Epstein has carked it, apparently he hung himself in his cell after being taken off suicide watch. Trump has assigned Attorney-General Barr to tidy up the loose ends investigate what happened.

My deep condolences to Mr Trump as he grieves the loss of his dear friend and struggles with balancing that against the relief of having dodged a bullet.

Agreed, Trump hardly knew Epstein but the Clintons were regular recipients of his donations and largess; Bill had been to Jeffrey Epstein's private island many times.

Trump and Epstein were best buddies for more than two decades. He had flown on Epstein's private plane and hosted him at Mar-a-Lago, which he used as part of his sex trafficking.

Here they are together at Mar-a-Lago:

(source: Business Insider)

Here are Trump's words on Epstein:
Epstein likes to tell people that he’s a loner, a man who’s never touched alcohol or drugs, and one whose nightlife is far from energetic. And yet if you talk to Donald Trump, a different Epstein emerges. “I’ve known Jeff for fifteen years. Terrific guy,” Trump booms from a speakerphone. “He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side. No doubt about it — Jeffrey enjoys his social life.”

The article you cite is from 2002; not long after that they fell out over a business deal. Trump recently said he hadn't spoken to Jeffrey Epstein since 2003.

How convenient.

When you balance the probabilities, Trump's proven history of attempting to disown his associations once they become awkward would suggest they were best buddies much longer than that.

Letting him get that close to Melania without keeping his hands where everyone can see them points towards a relationship strong enough to withstand a little disagreement over a deal.

See, for example, his former close association with the Clintons which included multiple endorsements of both Clintons' presidential campaigns.

You'd well be aware I hate both the retrace of capitalism as your aware and its ringmasters. Each time its been the same old people that have had to bail him out, the middle class who end up losing everything and the retires naive enough to invest in him. A good one to look up is the fallout from his Casinos in new jersey, that paints the picture.

Hate what allows it to happen and the people that abuse it.

Sitting here in Australia, I really don't give a rat's about all that other than to say I'm extremely happy that someone is taking on China's refusal to follow WTO rules. I wholly-agree with that in fact. I'm really overjoyed that someone is finally tackling an ascendant China whose refusal to play the game as we do is the only reason why they're there. In that respect Trump has the gonads that Obama lacked.

What do I care if Trump is a manipulative a*sehole who plays games? I don't. All I care about is that someone is punishing the Communist Party of China for all their unfair gaming of the system in the last 20 years. It makes me really happy that someone is shaking up the global order of things. I don't care what his character is like, he's not my President, I didn't vote for him and I've got no control over that situation anyway.

Don't stress over things you can't change.

Trump is taking on an even bigger slime-ball (note the hyphen) in the Communist Party of China. That's all I give a damn about, that's all that affects me here in little old Adelaide.

Oops, you fell for the BS.

The US trade deficit with China is actually over $100B per year larger under Trump than it was under Obama. Further to that, the deficit is growing at the fastest rate in history under Trump where Obama actually managed to reduce it in a couple of years and hold it close to steady in a couple of years..

That's right, $100,000,000,000 more of America's wealth is going to China than it was under Obama.

I'm sure that the Chinese are more than able to tolerate a little bit of juvenile smack talk if it comes with a $100,000,000,000 gift. China is winning, Trump is losing! Bad for America!
