    What happens in case of a fire or explosion, either through a technical fault (e.g. electrical), accidental (smoker in the toilet, children playing with matches...) or intentional (suicidal religious extremists looking to get media attention by taking out 5000 people in one smouldering, underground hit)? Current international best practice dictates that there must always be a rescue tunnel. Following the Mont Blanc Tunnel fire all European road tunnels that were single tube have been duplicated or retrofitted with a parallel escape tunnel. In less than 60km the Mt. Gothard Base Tunnel, which is double tube, has two intermeduiate rescue stations and three access tunnels. Even a mere electrical fault and breakdown could leave thousands of people in complete darkness for hours, up to 150km from an access point along a tunnel that regular rescue vehicles cannot use. There's also the problem of reducing the air pressure outside the stranded capsule to allow for a safe evacuation. Having a second tube may make your project more expensive but will provide an easy answer to these problems as well as resolving all the operational problems already mentioned.

    As Magtube is a railway there would be no petrol or diesel

    I doubt that America will ever have maglev as they want it to stop at too many stations and they have too many rules and Australia may wait until it has been proven in a less conservative country

    If the sea level pressure had to be restored then that could happen while the breakdown  crew comes in wearing high altitude masks

    Passengers could always transfer to the other train if necessary

    Regular inspections would have to be done as on aircraft

    Each train holds up to 3,000 but generally there would be half that

    I was more worried about troublemakers taking petrol or other flammables on board, spilling it everywhere then cracking a match. Just as devastating as doing it on a plane if you're hundreds of metres underground. You'd have to have security checks to match the airports, then your time advantage is lost. What about animal intrusion? People will take pets on board, a few will get lost and then breed and you'll have feral cat and dog colonies in your tunnel. Some with vermin. You won't be able to keep rats and insects out and this could cause havoc with the vacuum system. You'll need some sort of filtering system, maybe a big version of something from Bunnings? Lots of wombats in the areas the tunnel will cross too, and they're capable of doing serious damage to houses and fencing, so your tunnel may not be strong enough to resist and if they dig in and break the seal, all that pressure, KABOOM! I hope your plan includes VERY heavy duty wombat proof walls.

    No. Your scheme gives terrorists the opportunity to take out 3000 people in an underground inferno. Seriously address this MAJOR problem or forget your idea. Some serious responses to Valvegear's points, rather than childish haughty insults, would also help. This proposal currently looks as idiotic as Parrahub.

    I have spoken to a Queensland top engineer building the new games complex and he said Parrahub ticks all the boxes

    There is little difference between a terrorist taking out a Magtube carriage with 200 people than one doing the same to a DD carriage in a single tunnel elswhere

    Yes the 15 minutes trains spend in Magtube stations may give security more time but if we allow them to take away our freedom then they have won

    You said your cannister would usually have about 1500 people, not 200. Single tunnels in NSW have a parallel tunnel that can used as an escape tunnel, and there is always an egress point within a few dozen metres of any point. Your idea would have no easy escape point. People could be stranded 150km from an exit.

    Need to arrive 45 mins before departure for check in and security procedures, plus probably an extra 30 mins for traffic and parking problems. Sad!

    I do not think Japan would be interested in Magtube as they want to use skinny trains in big single tunnels with far more stops than Melbourne, Albury, Canberra and Parramatta but they probably would be keen to sell their magglev technology if it looked like we were fair dinkum and it did not compete with their thing

    On 10 0ct 2016 you said you'd said the Japan PM an email. Did you or did you not? I suggest sending one to Prince Charles. He likes to be associated with eco friendly projects, he loves new technology. Is an animal lover, and has plenty of contacts who could help get your project off (or rather, under) the ground. He also like a to be seen as a man of the people so I reckon its worth a go contacting him.

    That is correct and although he did not respond to me he did visit Australia shortly after but obviously they either did not discuss Magtube or they felt it was unworkable.

    If the Japanese PM visited shortly after you sent the email then it probably had an influence and they might have mentioned your project. Maybe a public announcement hasn't been made yet because the share prices of construction companies, Bunnings etc. would skyrocket and to stop real estate speculation around potential station sites. Not joking about wombats. I've got a plot of land near Wingello, right where this canister will be passing,  and those mongrels can dig through anything. No going around either for them, it's straight through and no stopping till any fence, wall or whatever is totally wrecked.

    Because of all the problems which I and others like billybaxter have listed and you have completely failed to answer with any evidence whatsoever.  This lack of proper answers was also pointed out by billybaxter not too far back in this thread.
    Unfortunately, Eddy, there's an old saying, "All P1ss and wind like the barber's cat." That's what we've been getting. You "think"; you "believe", you "are pretty confident" and so on. Still not one shred of decent engineering evidence at all, and you wonder why nobody believes you.

    It surprises me how people accept Hyperloop which I believe cannot work due to capacity, expansion and g force but reject the Magtube proposal

    If NWRL tunnels cost $38m per kilometer http://www.cimic.com.au/our-business/projects/north-west-rail-link then three single tunnels from Sydney to Melbourne would be $30b
